  • Spacious Warwickshire park set in the grounds of a country estate
  • A 25-minute drive from Warwick Castle or Stratford-upon-Avon
  • On-site coffee shop, playgrounds and walking routes
Have your morning cuppa or coffee in the grounds of a gorgeous countryside estate, and stretch your legs around the walking trails. It’s not just the mornings that are splendid when you stay at Umberslade Estate – this well-maintained site surrounded by the green Warwickshire countryside also has playgrounds and a coffee shop, Espresso Farm, which is open for refreshments daily, between 9am and 4pm. Elsewhere on the farm, kids can get up to activities including forest school or exploring the indoor play barn (just talk to site staff for details). There are also plenty of animals to see in the fields and outdoor play areas that children are likely to enjoy spotting throughout their stay. When you’re ready to dig into some more substantial grub, the site is approximately a mile from the village of Tanworth-in-Arden, where there is a friendly local pub. Danzey railway station is also close by, just over a mile and a half to the south of the estate; Wood End station is just over two miles to the north. That makes getting about Warwickshire’s historic towns and cities pretty easy. Other top-notch facilities at this family-friendly place include state-of-the-art toilets and showers, handy washing up sinks and a room where guests can charge their mobile phones and other gadgets. Dogs are also allowed to come and stay at Umberslade Estate, but they must be kept on their best behaviour and under control at all times.

Primitive grass tent or RV campsite

Liked: The campsite was spacious without allocated pitches which meant it had a countryside feeling that we enjoyed. The toilets and showers were clean. The play area was large and interesting for different ages of children.

Disliked: The gate to the campsite (and estate), contrary to signage, was left open all night, every night. With the absence of a warden or owners on site, this did leave us feeling rather vulnerable. Members of the public wandering past frequently, on their way to the play barn and pizza barn. This did reduce the feeling of privacy somewhat. Multiple dogs off lead, running up to other people's tents and food, running up and scaring children etc. I did broach this with management (via texts and phone since there is no one on site) but nothing was done about it. Booking conditions say that dogs must be kept on leads at all times, otherwise I would not have booked (because one of my children has a dog phobia). Management need to decide on their approach to dogs and advertise accordingly, so that campers know what to expect.

Primitive grass tent or RV campsite

Liked: Nice relaxed atmosphere, big open field and very peaceful location with the occasional train going past on an embankment a few hundred meters from the site. Good clean facilities (excellent shower rooms), and a really nice pizza place on site that also sells beer and wine! Good play park for kids too.

Disliked: Depending on where you pitch there could be some very long walks to the facilities. Only 2 shower rooms which were never busy, but site wasn’t full and if it was it could mean you have to wait.

Primitive grass tent or RV campsite

Liked: Camping are is really nice its a large field with hedge. Rows either side. I would recommend camping next to a hedgerow to shelter from the wind. Shower and toilet facilitieswere in a separate block a little walk from the field but no issues clock up your steps. Showers were good with two showers we were lucky as there was only a few campers anymore and this could have been a problem. I would recommend turning one of the children's changing toilets in to another shower. Coffee shop on site really nice, pizza barn for woodfired pizzas is only open Thurs-sun. Childrens play area. Garage up the road and the Bell LH a. Short walk. Great location really well. Kept grounds. Parking next to pitch as the ground was hard but the car park is about 2 mins walk.

Disliked: Plumbing was a bit questionable in toilets and showers I would recommend a good service in these areas as there some leaks which weren't cleaned up despite the cleaner going in and out. Toilets hmm dropped a star here cubicles need some work the frames were damaged and they weren't as clean as they could be toilet brushes a really good idea.

Local attractions

Feeling the spirit of the outdoors? Then, you have several options for outdoorsy days out. Umberslade Adventure (10 minutes' drive) is a family-friendly place with archery, zipwires, tree climbing and low ropes courses. The Bear Grylls Adventure (25 minutes) is a little more challenging, of course, and has high ropes, a shark dive, escape rooms and an assault course designed for marines. While rowing boats will keep up some of the action in Stratford-upon-Avon (25 minutes), a more peaceful time might involve exploring Shakespeare’s Birthplace or catching a show at one of the three Shakespeare-inspired theatres. Cadbury World (30 minutes) in Birmingham will bring chocolate making into the mix. However, if it’s science you’re interested in, Thinktank Birmingham Science Museum (40 minutes) might be your first stop. There’s the West Midland Safari Park (45 minutes) too, for those who want to see some wildlife up close. When you fancy a visit to a historical place, Packwood House (15 minutes) is a local Tudor manor house and Warwick Castle (25 minutes) has years of history and a knight’s village and turrets among other historic features.
