Umberslade Estate: View over the grassy pitches

General

  • Spacious Warwickshire park set in the grounds of a country estate
  • A 25-minute drive from Warwick Castle or Stratford-upon-Avon
  • On-site coffee shop, playgrounds and walking routes

Have your morning cuppa or coffee in the grounds of a gorgeous countryside estate, and stretch your legs around the walking trails. It’s not just the mornings that are splendid when you stay at Umberslade Estate – this well-maintained site surrounded by the green Warwickshire countryside also has playgrounds and a coffee shop, Espresso Farm, which is open for refreshments daily, between 9am and 4pm.

Elsewhere on the farm, kids can get up to activities including forest school or exploring the indoor play barn (just talk to site staff for details). There are also plenty of animals to see in the fields and outdoor play areas that children are likely to enjoy spotting throughout their stay.

When you’re ready to dig into some more substantial grub, the site is approximately a mile from the village of Tanworth-in-Arden, where there is a friendly local pub. Danzey railway station is also close by, just over a mile and a half to the south of the estate; Wood End station is just over two miles to the north. That makes getting about Warwickshire’s historic towns and cities pretty easy.

Other top-notch facilities at this family-friendly place include state-of-the-art toilets and showers, handy washing up sinks and a room where guests can charge their mobile phones and other gadgets.

Dogs are also allowed to come and stay at Umberslade Estate, but they must be kept on their best behaviour and under control at all times.

Field was well maintained and on site cafe and pizza barn were a nice touch especially if you dont fancy cooking. The cafe opens at 9 and closes at 4 - ideal times for a decent bite to eat.

As it was a Bank Holiday we expected more people but it seemed relatively underused which meant it was quiet after around 10.30 pm - for us that was a bonus :)

Location close to Tanworth in Arden was a plus - had a great meal in the Bell pub.

The toilet facilities were well maintained but a bit chilly

    Disliked:

It would be helpful to have clearer signage to direct campers to the facilities - nothing at the car ark to indicate where the toilets are. Also its not clear once you get into the toilet block that the baby change room is also doubles as the shower room.

Maybe consider a few more access gaps in the car park fence so you dont have to lift heavy equipment over it or walk so far around its perimeter to pitch up.

Toilets very clean, amazing kids playground and lovely pizza barn and coffee shop! Staff were all really friendly and helpful.

    Disliked:

The field is a little walk to the facilities but not a huge problem. It rained a lot overnight and we got stuck in the mud trying to get off the field but within minutes they brought a tractor out to rescue us! In hindsight we should have pitched by the road given the weather.

The space, the toilet/washing facilities were very modern and clean....however that was likely to be because there was only 1 other tent/family on site the same time we were there. Outdoor play areas good for little ones (my little boy is 8 and still had fun, however I don't think I'd stay any longer than 2 nights) I think the indoor play barn should be included in pitch price (it was a bit too young for my son but if you have younger children this could be a great option but it is quite pricey for just an hours play, on top of pitch fees)

    Disliked:

Price. Seems slightly pricey especially given the time of year and no electric hook up..... maybe why there was only us and 1 other tent despite it being mild and half term? If it were busier, having only 2 showers may be an issue.

Great location for visiting Birmingham, NEC in particular.
    Very clean toilet/shower/wash up block.
Fairly flat grass field with no mud to pitch on.
Attractive estate with very nice on site coffee shop.

    Disliked:

No tap available to top up campervan water tank (a tap was available next to the wash up area, but there is no way to get a campervan close enough to use it to top up the tank).
    No Chemical Disposal Point.
Grass very long in camping field.
Only 2 showers for whole campsite (not a problem during our visit as we ere alone for 2 of nights we stayed).
No EHU option (not a problem for us due to onboard solar/batteries).
Wash up area very good, but water only very warm not hot.
Wash up area flooring is polished concrete and very slippery when wet.
Overall very nice site, but too expensive given lack of water/EHU option/CDP for campervans.

Only 1 other van so very peaceful overnight stop (some early farm related activity).
Clean toilet block (although automatic lights failed to work in gents).
Clearly lots of investment has taken place but not focussed on motorhome facilities as yet.
Didn't use WiFi if it was available (no info provided)

    Disliked:

Very expensive given lack of facilities.
    No waste disposal.
No obvious shower facility or water tap (I couldn't ring to check where they were as no signal).

Local attractions

Feeling the spirit of the outdoors? Then, you have several options for outdoorsy days out. Umberslade Adventure (10 minutes' drive) is a family-friendly place with archery, zipwires, tree climbing and low ropes courses. The Bear Grylls Adventure (25 minutes) is a little more challenging, of course, and has high ropes, a shark dive, escape rooms and an assault course designed for marines.

While rowing boats will keep up some of the action in Stratford-upon-Avon (25 minutes), a more peaceful time might involve exploring Shakespeare’s Birthplace or catching a show at one of the three Shakespeare-inspired theatres.

Cadbury World (30 minutes) in Birmingham will bring chocolate making into the mix. However, if it’s science you’re interested in, Thinktank Birmingham Science Museum (40 minutes) might be your first stop. There’s the West Midland Safari Park (45 minutes) too, for those who want to see some wildlife up close.

When you fancy a visit to a historical place, Packwood House (15 minutes) is a local Tudor manor house and Warwick Castle (25 minutes) has years of history and a knight’s village and turrets among other historic features.
