Cyclists, horse riders and dog lovers โ€“ all are welcome at Meadow Barn Feld, a peaceful, no-frills site less than 45 minutesโ€™ drive from Coventry, Birmingham and Leicester. This rural Warwickshire location has countryside views and plenty of footpaths close by, as well as waterparks and animal attractions close by for the kids. The pitching area is in a well-fenced field and has its own drive off a quiet country lane. It's a simple setup, but facilities include showers in the toilet block and a communal fridge. Pick up supplies at handy supermarkets in Atherstone or Nuneaton, and grill on the barbecue (bring your own), or take yourselves off to a traditional pub in one of the neighbouring villages like Sibson. Open at the weekend, the tearoom at Sparkenhoe Cheese Farm is popular for its toasties, using Red Leicester and Stilton cheese made on the farm. Dedicated cyclists have quick access to National Cycle Routes 52 and 63 from here, while families can try rather easier cycling along the Conkers Circuit. You can take gentle strolls along Ashby Canal, and there are numerous country walks as well as bridlepaths for horses in the National Forest. Riders, stables are available (on prior request) for your horses.

Local attractions

Thereโ€™s so much for families to see and do. Kids can wear themselves out on rope trails and activity courses at Conkers adventure park (25 minutes' drive), sail a dinghy at Bosworth Water Park or join in keeper sessions at Twycross Zoo (both 10 minutes). With its rollercoasters and dinosaur-themed trail, Drayton Manor Theme Park (25 minutes) should be on your to-do list too. For more cultural days out, explore the armoury and dungeons at medieval Tamworth Castle (30 minutes), or take a guided tour of the historic battleground at the Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre (10 minutes). For a different perspective, steam trains run right past the battlefield in summer. To slow the pace completely, lose yourself on countryside walks directly from the campsite, or follow trails through the wild meadow and arboretum at Market Bosworth Country Park (10 minutes). Arbury Hall (20 minutes) and Coombe Abbey (35 minutes) would be good picks if you prefer country estates, or try Lucky Tails Alpaca Farm (20 minutes) if your rural break needs a dose of cute creatures.
