The meadow

  • Back to basics rural site in a peaceful Warwickshire meadow
  • Birmingham, Tamworth and Drayton Manor within half an hour's drive
  • A few minutes' walk from a farm shop
Set in a stunning meadow, Nightingales Rustic Camping is a back to basics site in Warwickshire with plenty of room between pitches and well-maintained communal toilet and shower facilities. There are designated spots where you can light up a fire as well (it doesn't get much more atmospheric than sitting together around flickering flames as the setting sun streams over the meadow…). Nightingales Rustic Camping is a few minutes' walk away from a farm shop where you can pick up a whole host of top-quality produce, and it's about a 10-minute drive to nearby Atherstone and its many amenities, which include a railway station, supermarket, restaurants and a leisure centre. Although this site is pleasingly rural in atmosphere, Nightingales Rustic Camping is in a very convenient location – Birmingham city centre, Drayton Manor Theme Park and the market town of Tamworth can all be reached by road in under half an hour.

Field stay primitive grass and earth tent or trailer tent campsite (large)

Liked Charlotte was super helpful, ended up booking for the wrong week and it was not an issue, Charlotte changed the booking for us.

The Sunday was deserted, had we stayed it would have been a nice quiet night.

The pitches are huge and can pick where you pitch up.

The fields well maintained.

Plenty of Portable toilets. There are normal toilet and shower combo, but only two of them on the farm shop, so you might have to queue if it is busy, we had no issues with this on the Saturday.

Able to get a small fire pit which was handy for roasting marshmallows!

Disliked On the Saturday had an awfully loud group in the relax field, shouting into the early hours, although this is quite unlucky and something the owners can’t be blamed for.

The Meadow primitive grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Wide open spaces, friendly staff, wildlife, peace and quiet

Disliked Narrow lane: The site is quite remote on a winding single track lane. It is what it is, no fault of site just something to be aware of. Maybe installing some convex traffic mirrors at the bends where/if possible. I nearly took out some kamikazi cyclists, despite only doing 10mph at one bend. Again not the sites fault, dont let it put you off, just be careful on approach.

Shower block: It's functional, but basic. Very Heath Robinson, definitely rustic. Water was very hot in the main shower off the wash up area. Couldn't get it too run cool in the heat, was just about bearable. That said it served its purpose, I got a shower....would it put me off going again....its definitely a consideration.

From the manager: Hi Summer , Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us a lovely review. We’re really pleased you enjoyed your stay with us.

It’s great to hear you enjoyed having the butchery shop on site and found our facilities clean and convenient. We try to make the campsite feel rustic while still providing the essentials, with portaloos placed around the fields as well as our toilet block and shower facilities near the yard.

We really appreciate your feedback and hope to welcome you back to Nightingales Rustic Camping again soon.

The Meadow primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked On this occasion the site worked, I arrived by bicycle.. 1st mistake was not checking elevation .. it’s on top of a 1.6km climb 😬 arrived late, made welcome decided to shower before going across to camp field.. basic field with portaloo spread around. Single no frills shower is basic.

From the manager: Hi Dave,

Thank you for your feedback. I’m sorry to hear that our campsite wasn’t the right fit for you.

As a rustic countryside campsite, we aim to provide a peaceful environment where guests can enjoy nature, wildlife, woodland walks, beautiful views, and stunning sunsets. Many of our visitors choose us specifically for this experience, so it’s disappointing to hear that it didn’t meet your expectations.

You arrived after our advertised check-in hours, but I still took the time to personally welcome you and show you around our family-run campsite to ensure you were settled in comfortably.

Regarding access from your pitch, there are two routes available: one involves a small incline, while the other follows a flat lane. Guests are free to choose whichever route best suits their needs.

In terms of facilities, we believe we offer a good range for a rustic camping experience, including a kitchen area with a fridge, kettle and microwave, two showers, drinking water, and both flushing toilets and portable toilets. All of these facilities are provided free of charge for our guests.

At £12, we work hard to provide a simple, affordable countryside camping experience with no extra charges for using the facilities on site. While we appreciate that rustic camping isn’t for everyone, we’re proud of what we offer and of the positive experiences enjoyed by many of our guests.

We wish you all the best with your future camping trips.

Kind regards,

Charlotte

Local attractions

There are heaps of options near Nightingales Rustic Camping for busy bees who want to stick to the local area. For a restorative round of the green, take yourself down to Atherstone Golf Club (10 minutes' drive); tiddlers who find the games there rather slow-paced for their liking can be taken to the town's swimming pool (10 minutes) instead. Also close by are Kingsbury Water Park (15 minutes) and Hartshill Hayes Country Park (15 minutes), where there are birds to spot, picnics to be had and a load of nature to take in. More outdoor jaunts can be had at Tamworth Castle (25 minutes), a fearsome Norman fortress overlooking the bustling market town. And don't feel that you have to eschew indoor times just because you're sleeping in the open air – the slopes of SnowDome indoor ski centre (25 minutes) and fab aquatic displays at the National Sea Life Centre (30 minutes) are not to be missed. Kids been on their best behaviour, or need an incentive to keep them that way? The promise of a trip to Drayton Manor Theme Park (25 minutes) should do the job.
