  • Family campsite with great views in the Vale of the White Horse
  • A half-hour drive to the Cotswolds or central Oxford
  • Next to an excellent farm shop and farm park with discounted entry
You’ll be in for a real rural experience when you stay at Oxford Oak Camping – this simple family-oriented site is just behind Farmer Gow’s farm park and shop in the Oxfordshire countryside. Guests of the campsite will be able to pick up discounted tickets for the farm park, so you can get in there for the kids to meet the animals, play on the pedal tractors and climb the giant hay bales. It’s also a fabulous place to pick up lots of lovely fresh produce – perhaps some steaks, sausages or burgers for your barbecue or some fresh eggs for an alfresco breakfast. Back at base, pitches are pleasingly spacious, flat and surrounded by hedgerows for a bit of shelter. Simple facilities are provided in the form of toilets and showers, and campfires are heartily encouraged by the provision of communal firepits with seating around them. Firewood can be purchased on site to help such evenings along. With splendid views of the Ridgway and the Uffington White Horse there’s no mistaking the fact that you’re really out in the countryside here – but that doesn’t mean you’ll be cut off at all. There’s a pub about half a mile away in the village of Fernham, and it’s very easy to get to the A420 (the main Oxford-Swindon road) close by for your days out in the likes of the Cotswolds, Oxford and the North Wessex Downs.

Bell tent (six person)

Liked: The areas beautiful and the tents are always made up nice. Very comfortable

Disliked: Only that the group of children that stayed wasn’t really being supervised in the toilet and washing up area. So they left everything quite dirty which was a shame.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: This is a lovely laid back site. There’s space to breathe. On site is the farmer gows attraction which is a bonus. There are brilliant fire pits, perfect for mingling and the facilities are absolutely fine, clean and working. It’s miles away from everywhere yet close enough to pubs, restaurants, towns and the famous white horse.

Disliked: The English weather 😂😂

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: Great locations for walking and adventuring. The site had everything you needed, very warm showers and clean facilities. I was the only one on site so very quiet! The only addition I would suggest is a shelf in the shower to keep your toiletries on if possible! I will definitely be back to use this site again.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: The welcome. We were greeted as soon as we arrived and shown the excellent facilities. The site is well maintained. Loved the fire pits and the cute benches offered for us all to share. Quiet site too. There are yurts for glampers if you fancy and these are stunningly kitted out.

Local attractions

This is some splendid countryside, so come along prepped for walks or bike rides, either in the immediate surroundings or a little further afield in the North Wessex Downs (10 minutes’ drive) and Cotswolds (half an hour) Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. If you’re not sure where to start, the Uffington White Horse (10 minutes) and the area around Burford (half an hour) are good bets. You may spot some native wildlife as you roam, but for something more exotic you’ll need to head to the Cotswold Wildlife Park & Garden (half an hour) or to meet the snappy residents of Crocodiles of the World (25 minutes). It’s certainly not safe to get in the water there, but it is at Cotswold Water Park (35 minutes), which has a whole host of watersports as well as a beach area and fishing. For a bit of history and culture, you can’t beat a day out in Oxford (half an hour), punting along the river, touring the college quads and visiting the Ashmolean Museum. There are lots of scenic villages and towns to see up in the Cotswolds too – places like Bourton-on-the-Water and Stow-on-the-Wold (both 50 minutes) may be some of the prettiest places to see in the whole land.
