  • Family campsite with great views in the Vale of the White Horse
  • A half-hour drive to the Cotswolds or central Oxford
  • Communal firepits with seating on site; firewood for sale
You’ll be in for a real rural experience when you stay at Oxford Oak Camping – this simple family-oriented site is just behind Farmer Gow’s farm park and shop in the Oxfordshire countryside. Back at base, pitches are pleasingly spacious, flat and surrounded by hedgerows for a bit of shelter. Simple facilities are provided in the form of toilets and showers, and campfires are heartily encouraged by the provision of communal firepits with seating around them. Firewood can be purchased on site to help such evenings along. With splendid views of the Ridgway and the Uffington White Horse there’s no mistaking the fact that you’re really out in the countryside here – but that doesn’t mean you’ll be cut off at all. There’s a pub about half a mile away in the village of Fernham, and it’s very easy to get to the A420 (the main Oxford-Swindon road) close by for your days out in the likes of the Cotswolds, Oxford and the North Wessex Downs.

What customers say

Sure, here's the summary for you: A peaceful, well-kept spot with roomy, level pitches and grand views. Showers and toilets are always clean and well-stocked. Staff are lovely and always willing to lend a hand. Some folk found the facilities a bit basic, and a few heard noises from nearby or found the shop a little light. It's a great place for seeing the local sights.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked I stayed here in late September and so the site was very quiet. I didn’t get to meet the owners. The pitches are flat, good for a small tent. The bathroom and washing up facilities were very clean and well cared for.

Electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked We loved this site. It was the second week in September and so very quiet which was perfect for us. The facilities were fine - basic but well-resourced. This was the only site of several this week that provided some washing up liquid, for example! Dog friendly. Great location. You absolutely can see the White Horse from the site. You just have to go to the end of the hedge to the track and look. Friendly hosts who chatted to us.

Electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked All very clean and tidy. Good for a nice walk to the White horse near by the campsite. Had a peaceful stay.

Disliked Unisex washing and showers a bit of an issue for my wife as in the same area as washroom and dish washing area. I know that it states it in the booking info but not everyone’s liking.

Liked A nice field, only to toilets and showers but very clear and no problems. Lisa was very friendly and helpful.
The only problem was it’s not very well sign posted at road. Needs a sign and a what3words address.
Had a good stay and would stay again

Local attractions

This is some splendid countryside, so come along prepped for walks or bike rides, either in the immediate surroundings or a little further afield in the North Wessex Downs (10 minutes’ drive) and Cotswolds (half an hour) National Landscapes. If you’re not sure where to start, the Uffington White Horse (10 minutes) and the area around Burford (half an hour) are good bets. You may spot some native wildlife as you roam, but for something more exotic you’ll need to head to the Cotswold Wildlife Park & Garden (half an hour) or to meet the snappy residents of Crocodiles of the World (25 minutes). It’s certainly not safe to get in the water there, but it is at Cotswold Water Park (35 minutes), which has a whole host of watersports as well as a beach area and fishing. For a bit of history and culture, you can’t beat a day out in Oxford (half an hour), punting along the river, touring the college quads and visiting the Ashmolean Museum. There are lots of scenic villages and towns to see up in the Cotswolds too – places like Bourton-on-the-Water and Stow-on-the-Wold (both 50 minutes) may be some of the prettiest places to see in the whole land.
