Glebe Leisure: The site

General

  • Quiet secluded site close to Bicester
  • The closest site to Bicester Heritage (two miles)
  • Fishing lakes on site

What an excellent Oxfordshire site this is for anglers. And walkers. And quiet English countryside appreciators. For friendly and well-maintained Glebe Leisure Park is in a cracking countryside location on the edges of Buckinghamshire and Northamptonshire as well as Oxfordshire and has two fishing lakes on site as well as lots of trails all around.

Dogs – and their owners – like this place too, as there are long walks and gravelled pathways with dog waste bins set at handy locations, and it's mighty like too that cyclists will like the gentle and short pedal along to local town Bicester...

Any amenities you might need are sorted here, such as a loo and shower block with info room about the surrounding area, a toilet and shower facilities for disabled guests, a chemical disposal point, drinking water outlets and a car park.

The site is lovely, and so is the dog walk. We didn't explore the lakes on this trip. My husband says the facilities were good and clean, I use the facilities on our caravan, so cannot comment on the ladies facilities. We do hope to return despite our overnight experience.

    Disliked:

The quiet time between 11pm and 7am was not observed by one family in a tent which unfortunately spoiled things for us, so we left after one night. We had booked for 2.

From the manager...

Thank you for your review, We are glad you enjoyed our site. We are sorry that you felt the need to leave early, We only wish you had spoken to the onsite warden's when the disturbance was happening and we would of resolved this matter for you, Kind Regards, Glebe.

    Lovely site,Good sized pitches.
Showers are nice and hot and toilets are clean.
Words can't describe how beautiful the grounds are,the 2 fishing lakes are full of fish, the walk around the grounds was relaxing and the statues and wooden sculpture are stunning.
Sat in the relaxing grounds by our campervan watching the many small planes and a bi-plane overhead and we saw 2 Herons.
Walked the 3.2 miles to Bicester along a nice country road and saw a Red kite and 2 deer.
    Will definitely be back.

This was our first time camping at Glebe leisure, we had the best weekend! We were given leaflets with all relevant information when we arrived. The pitch was spacious and well kept, the facilities were adequate for a campsite and always clean. The lakes were great for fishing on, we caught several. The area surrounding the lake was beautiful. It was too hot but the freezer with ice lollies at a small price was fantastic! There was clothes washing facilities, although we didn't use them. The site was generally quiet and so relaxing. The owners and staff were so friendly, as well as the other campers. We will definitely be returning! And to top it off it was so affordable and well worth the cost.

This was quite a nice site with suitable walks for dogs and a well stocked fishing lake for those who want to partake.

Very friendly staff onsite and some lovely extras that we have not see before...chargeable jet wash use to clean either your car or caravan and in reception their is a small chest freezer with ice lollies and an 'honesty box'.

The showers are the best we have experienced so far this year with adjustable pressure and excellent control for hit and cold.

We came to this site to visit the Silverstone Museum which is about 20 minutes drive away.

We also visited Diddly Squat Farm on Friday afternoon which was about 40 minutes away and only 20 minutes wait for the shop :)

Bicester is only a 10 minute drive away and we spent £10 on a taxi to find a nice selection of shops, pubs and a few restaurants and takeaways.

If there was a local shop or some basics for shopping onsite, or a bar/cafe then this would definitely have been close to a perfect score.

    Disliked:

Not ideal if you want an adult only site. We had a party or kids running around bleeping walky talkies and shouting through them for a few hours but this did stop towards the evening so was tollerable to us.

WiFi is advertised as available onsite for a small fee. The signal was strong and an open connection but failed when trying to connect. Called for information at reception and was advised that when you connect a link will pop up to a portal. This did not happen for both me and my son so we didn't bother.

Bit of a trek to the toilets for us but the toilets were clean and the showers were spot on.

The setting. Beautiful lakes, Woodland dog walk, relatively quiet with a little distant train noise. Toilets and showers clean and tidy. Flat gravel and fully serviced pitch. Motorhome washing spot (£1) if required. Plenty of dog poo bins! Friendly receptionist with allocated pitch place. Card to operate the safety barrier which is nice security. The weather was brilliant!

    Disliked:

The washing up zone was quite a distance especially if you wanted to wash dinner pots and it the light was failing. Sadly on the second night I had issues with the electric hook up losing all power and my fridge not working on a very hot night! I had to use my own leisure battery. Not good but didn’t complain or phone the help line as I was leaving the following morning. The site wasn’t very busy so not a case of overload on the supply.

Local attractions

Plenty of shops, restaurants, pubs and cafés are in Glebe Leisure's local town of Bicester within a couple of miles, and designer clothes and accessories in the outlet shopping centre Bicester Village.

Glebe is the closest site to Bicester Heritage, the first park in the UK for the tender loving restoration care of classic and vintage cars, motorbikes and planes, all on over 345 acres of an old RAF bomber station. The centre's been described as 'a historic motoring fan's idea of heaven' so do speed along there if old engines make your motor hum.

Twelve miles from the site is simply smashing Blenheim Palace, given to the first Duke of Marlborough by Charlie 2 and handed down through the Churchill family to reach one Winston some decades back. You really should have a trip...

Also within 12 miles are another few British institutions: the dizzying array of arty treasures at the National Trust's Waddesdon Manor; Broughton Castle at Banbury, and days out spectating fast types at Silverstone Circuit.

Must see

  • Stowe Landscape Gardens (8.1 miles)
