Glebe Leisure: Front field and shower block: hardstandings are in the middle

General

  • Quiet secluded site close to Bicester
  • The closest site to Bicester Heritage (two miles)
  • Fishing lakes on site

What an excellent Oxfordshire site this is for anglers. And walkers. And quiet English countryside appreciators. For friendly and well-maintained Glebe Leisure Park is in a cracking countryside location on the edges of Buckinghamshire and Northamptonshire as well as Oxfordshire and has two fishing lakes on site as well as lots of trails all around.

Dogs – and their owners – like this place too, as there are long walks and gravelled pathways with dog waste bins set at handy locations, and it's mighty like too that cyclists will like the gentle and short pedal along to local town Bicester...

Any amenities you might need are sorted here, such as a loo and shower block with info room about the surrounding area, a toilet and shower facilities for disabled guests, a chemical disposal point, drinking water outlets and a car park.

The site was lovely, nice to stroll round the lake and peaceful. Easy reach of Silverstone where we were visiting and some nice pubs in pretty villages. Pitches were nice.

    Disliked:

Minor dislike. The gravel on the hard standing service pitches was very small and tended to pick up on shoes quite easily, particularly if wet.

Good facilities and spotlessly clean, lovely quiet location.

    Disliked:

    Not very friendly staff.
We were travelling down from Glasgow and had advised we were running a little later than expected..but were still on track to be there by the 7pm cut off time. (We had originally planned to be there by 6:30pm but got held up in traffic).
We even called the site on our way to let them know we were on our way and would by there for 7pm (the advertised latest checkin time) and were advised this was fine.
We got to the campsite dead on 7pm and were welcomed with a very rude older lady who didn’t appear happy at all…more or less scolded us for being ‘late’ and that they have very strict times for checkin!
We had also paid for 2 motorhome hard standing pitches, next to each other.
However one of the pitches we had been allocated had been taken by another van.
The woman didn’t seem to care and we had to just make do with one of our vans parking on grass.
I would advise the site to change their biook on times to an earlier time if they are not happy with the 7pm check in!!!

From the manager...

We received no communication to inform us of a late arrival, and reception had closed when you arrived at just gone 7. Unfortunately although you had been allocated 2 pitches side by side, another camper in a campervan had gone out for the day, but when they returned they put themselves back on a different pitch, which because the site is so dark at this time of year was not noticed which meant you didn't get 2 pitches with hardstanding side by side for the one night you were with us. You were checked in quickly as the receptionist had finished and was leaving to go home, you were sent an email on booking to explain 7pm is the very latest check in and to allow enough time for your journey including hold ups in traffic.

Local attractions

Plenty of shops, restaurants, pubs and cafés are in Glebe Leisure's local town of Bicester within a couple of miles, and designer clothes and accessories in the outlet shopping centre Bicester Village.

Glebe is the closest site to Bicester Heritage, the first park in the UK for the tender loving restoration care of classic and vintage cars, motorbikes and planes, all on over 345 acres of an old RAF bomber station. The centre's been described as 'a historic motoring fan's idea of heaven' so do speed along there if old engines make your motor hum.

Twelve miles from the site is simply smashing Blenheim Palace, given to the first Duke of Marlborough by Charlie 2 and handed down through the Churchill family to reach one Winston some decades back. You really should have a trip...

Also within 12 miles are another few British institutions: the dizzying array of arty treasures at the National Trust's Waddesdon Manor; Broughton Castle at Banbury, and days out spectating fast types at Silverstone Circuit.

Must see

  • Stowe Landscape Gardens (8.1 miles)
  • Silverstone Circuit (10.7 miles)
  • Waddesdon Manor (11.0 miles)

National Trust

  • Buckingham Chantry Chapel (7.7 miles)
  • Claydon (7.9 miles)
