Camping under the trees
Quiet rural camping just 12 miles from central london
100 aker wood area of the park
Our pitch in the avenues field

  • Large peaceful parkland site 12 miles from central London
  • Café, playgrounds and barbecue rental
  • Activities on site including nature walks and animal feeding
City slickers – if you yearn for the bright lights of the UK capital but feel slightly faint at London hotel prices, it's likely that you'll find the setting of Elstree's Aldenham Country Park magic. The wild camping pitches at this peaceful park are less than a mile from the M1 motorway and 12 miles from central London – and three from Muggle-based antics at The Making of Harry Potter as well as seven from Wembley Stadium. (And another excellent aspect of Aldenham's location? It's a great option for Londoners seeking a nearby bolthole too.) Although it's so close to the city, Aldenham is spellbindingly rural, set on a 175-acre parkland site next to a large lake and maintaining a quiet countryside atmosphere with nature walks and animal feeding among the activities for guests. Kids can also search for Winnie in the Pooh in the park's 100 Aker Wood area. Other activities include cycle rides on woodland trails. The site's facilities include a café, playgrounds, barbecue rental and a shop selling farm produce. The amenities block has toilets, showers and disabled access.

What customers say

Spacious, well-located site with friendly staff. Guests love the natural setting, ample room, and campfires. Kids enjoy the adventure playground and farm. Facilities are basic but clean, though portaloos & limited showers/sinks can be an issue when busy. Good value, easy London access.

Primitive grass tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite

Liked Nice big flat field

Disliked Very poor and not clean sanitary facilities (Dixie’s), no hot water to do dishes and no where the option for electricity. The staff was only between 9-16h on site.

Primitive grass tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite

Primitive grass tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite

Liked Really spacious campground, quiet surroundings

Disliked really awful toilets (just 2 smelly dixies), have to walk to guest toilets on other side of country park for decent offering. Only 1 outside shower. Why?

Primitive grass tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite

Liked I love this campsite. I stayed here before a year or more ago and it was great this time too. Plenty of space, friendly staff and neighbours, everything worked well, no problems. I love that you can have a fire here. All good! Thanks very much.

Primitive grass tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite

Liked Lots of space, the kids enjoyed the farm and playground.

I really appreciated that the camp site has a security on site and that they walk around the field in the evening.

Disliked Having to pay to have a fire.

The port a loo style toilets were a bit gross, people leaving No. 2's visible instead of continuing to flush was a constant problem and not nice to have to deal with when young kids are desperate to use the toilet.
