Quiet rural camping just 12 miles from central London

General

  • Large peaceful parkland 12 miles from central London
  • Café, farm shop, barbecue rental and free wifi
  • Lots of activities for kids including pony rides and animal feeding

City slickers! If you yearn for the bright lights of the UK capital but feel slightly faint at London hotel prices, you'll find the setting of Elmstree's Aldenham Country Park magic.

This wild camping and peaceful park is less than a mile from the M1 motorway and 12 miles from central London – and three from Muggle-based antics at The Making of Harry Potter as well as seven from Wembley Stadium. (And another topping aspect of Aldenham's location? It's a tiptop option for Londoners seeking a nearby bolthole too.)

Although it's so close to the city, Aldenham is spellbindingly rural, set on a 175-acre parkland site next to a large lake and maintaining a quiet countryside atmosphere with nature walks, pony rides, egg collecting and animal feeding among the activities for guests.

Kids can join an expert-led survival workshop, learn about life on the farm or search for Winnie in the Pooh in the park's 100 Aker Wood area. Other activities include fishing and cycle rides on woodland trails.

The site's facilities include a café, playgrounds, free wifi, barbecue rental and a shop selling farm produce. The amenities block has toilets, showers and disabled access.

Please note

Facilities/activities including access to the adventure playground and the farm are subject to extra charges payable on arrival.

Open land and relaxed feel ,reservoir walk with many wild birds including herens.Good access to Central London from Stanmore station ,we used a local taxi co ...cost £10 . The farm shop and farm cafe where the staff are very helpful and friendly .Fresh eggs and produce available but limited range .The park is 100 acres in total ,so there is ample space to roam and walk around after the hussle and bussel on central London. The pitches are pretty level.Access pretty good from the M25 . Sarah and Faye were very helpful and informed us of some of the parks history .Faye was particularly passionate about the animals and obviously enjoyed working at the park.

    Disliked:

The toilets and showers are very basic ,the camping is known as "wild camping" that is fine but build a toilet and shower block for those that don't like it quite so wild. There are no electric hook ups ,so my van fridge wouldn't stay cool for more that 24 hrs off the aux battery ,again fairly easy to sort.

Great, rustic camping near cows, sheep, with all comforts available09/16/2019

Absolutely glorious stay of course, considering the weather. The grounds are great, near the lake and with cows and sheep in the meadow next door. Also, while the camping is totally rustic and open, everything is available and very well maintained: showers, toilets, washing up places, fresh water. So yes, this was my third stay and I hope to go back many times more.

    Disliked:

There was a flood prior to us arriving and we weren’t Informed that many events were closed for the kids such as no pony rides or farm, so there wasn’t much to do. Also massive fires at night with fireworks till 2am. No security after 8pm checking for excess noise. I have special needs children and the music large fires nearly catching the tree with fire works till early hours really distressed him. Disappointing.

Loved being able to have a campfire.
Lots of toilets, even if most were port-a-loos (still convenient)
Lots of activities for the kids to do and plenty of space to run around.
Super close to London so if the weather is awful easy to turn around and go home!

    Disliked:

Not enough showers for the amount of people.
I would have liked some of the activities included in the price for campers ie. farm / adventure playground and would have been happier to pay more for this.
