Several walking trails around the site

General

  • Large peaceful parkland 12 miles from central London
  • Café, farm shop, barbecue rental and free wifi
  • Lots of activities for kids including pony rides and animal feeding

City slickers! If you yearn for the bright lights of the UK capital but feel slightly faint at London hotel prices, you'll find the setting of Elmstree's Aldenham Country Park magic.

This wild camping and peaceful park is less than a mile from the M1 motorway and 12 miles from central London – and three from Muggle-based antics at The Making of Harry Potter as well as seven from Wembley Stadium. (And another topping aspect of Aldenham's location? It's a tiptop option for Londoners seeking a nearby bolthole too.)

Although it's so close to the city, Aldenham is spellbindingly rural, set on a 175-acre parkland site next to a large lake and maintaining a quiet countryside atmosphere with nature walks, pony rides, egg collecting and animal feeding among the activities for guests.

Kids can join an expert-led survival workshop, learn about life on the farm or search for Winnie in the Pooh in the park's 100 Aker Wood area. Other activities include fishing and cycle rides on woodland trails.

The site's facilities include a café, playgrounds, free wifi, barbecue rental and a shop selling farm produce. The amenities block has toilets, showers and disabled access.

Plenty of space, very friendly & helpfull staff. Loved the cafe on site, has great food. Lot of fun meeting/feeding all the animals on the farm. 2 nice pubs within walking distance. Camp fire at night was fantastic. Plenty of nature trails to walk with a very large lake to walk around. Kids loved the play grounds, great camping site/park. Large cabins where you can charge your phone while having lunch.

We loved camping there and will be back.

Washing station is nice, toilet are fine, did not use the shower but reasonably basic.

Entrance to the campsite is through a curb.

From the manager...

Hi camper

Thank you for your review, delighted you enjoyed your stay with us. There is a track to the camping field but due to the unexpected weather we opted to using the road entry. As the weather warms up and the grass drys, entrance will be from the field track.

Happy Camping

Hi Camper

We are sorry to read you were unhappy with your stay. You are correct the alarm from the Centre did go off, although a fairly quite alarm and located a long way from the camping grounds it may have concerned you.

For some reason ( perhaps due to being such a windy night ) the alarm set itself off and we reset the alarm shortly after.

There are 7 staff who live on site and are always available 24/7 to attend to any matters of concern. We supply 3 phone numbers on our welcome leaflet for you to call.

Again I am truly sorry you felt this justified a 2/10, when we strive for 10/10.

We wish you happy camping

Staff were friendly. Everything was clean.

    Disliked:

The toilets were about 5 minutes away from the campsite. Tap didn't work and had to use the shower to get water for our dog. A lot of confusion regarding the code for getting in and out of the campsite. A lot of random stuff in the campsite (punch bag, a desk chair etc)

From the manager...

Hi Sophie

Thank you for your review and we are very sorry the site wasnt for you. We fully understand this time year when its raining that camping is not idea for all. At this time of year we dont have everything set up and this why we suggested camping close to the toilets and showers, Overall we have 30 toilets on site and 7 showers with multiple water points all over the park. You decided to camp as far away from the park as possible which of course there is a longer walk to the showers but only a couple of mins and its a lovely walk.

Happy camping

Regards
David

I pitched in 'the avenues', the field with lots of trees which had a superb atmosphere & felt like proper wild camping.

I loved having a small open fire as it's extremely hard to find a campsite that will allow this!

The location of the site was great and was easy to find.

    Disliked:

Facilities are basic, but if you want a wild camping experience as they advertise they are more than adequate and were fine for the one night stay I had!

Compost toilets are a must try, even if it is only one time.
