Nice pub
Level pitches throughout the site
The thames head inn, between cirencester and tetbury
There's plenty of greenery around the site

  • Peaceful site on the edge of the Gloucestershire Cotswolds
  • 10 minutes’ drive from the towns of Cirencester and Tetbury
  • In the grounds of the Thames Head Inn bar-restaurant
Stunning landscapes, scenic market towns and the peace and quiet of the Cotswolds… How could you say no to that? At family-friendly site The Thames Head Inn, four miles from Cirencester market town in the Gloucestershire Cotswolds, you definitely won't want to miss the chance. Thames Head is well-placed for exploring the spectacular Cotswolds on foot or by bike – the start of the Thames Path, which follows the world-famous river for 184 miles from source to sea, is half a mile from the site, and there are loads of cycles tours and walking routes starting in Cirencester and Tetbury, both within 10 minutes’ drive of the site. If that's not your scene, kick back on the dog-friendly site in the shade of the trees, soaking in the scenic and peaceful Cotswolds countryside, or take a relaxed stroll through the fields with Rex. Worked up an appetite? The site is in the grounds of the Thames Head Inn bar-restaurant, where food is served well into the evening and the drinks keep flowing until closing (remember to book a table, as mealtimes can get very busy). If you fancy fending for yourself, pick up supplies in Cirencester or Kemble – a 20-minute walk away – and fire up the barbecue. For a change of scenery – and menus – there are plenty of restaurants within 10 minutes of Thames Head.

What customers say

This neat, welcoming spot has level spots near the Thames' source. Guests rave about the pub's great food/vibe, and friendly staff. It's peaceful and a good deal, but the one toilet/shower can be an issue when busy. Some mention road/train noise.

Liked Camped here in our van, was a great site. Road can be noisy but that didn’t bother us. Really friendly site. Pub was great, well priced, amazing service, great portions and tasted really good. No child friendly bits but there is plenty of space for them to play and ride bikes etc. WiFi only in the pub. But it worked well.
Service in the pub was brilliant. We had two awesome servers. The service for the site was lacking, mostly due to pitch confusion as described below

Disliked Pitches were a slight issue. Apparently you can book a small or a large pitch, we were never given the option. Also they allocate pitches on a sheet in the pub but they don’t actually tell you this. Then there are signs saying to mark your pitch which if it’s allocated pitches you wouldn’t need… this is what really let it down for us. Also, we had a house looking into our pitch a very low wall and they could easily see in… was a bit off putting and weird
Facilities are not ideal for the potential number of people and vans. There is no grey water drive over disposal. You need a really long hose to get fresh water too. Toilet/shower facilities are limited considering the number of people who could be there. But none of this would stop us from coming back.

Liked Team were really friendly and welcoming, we felt really looked after, after a long journey. The site was peaceful and good value for money.
Food was fantastic and the way they catered for my three year old was above and beyond!

Disliked The facilities are a small walk with no lighting which was a bit of a shame so you need to remember a torch. A few small torch style lights to lead the way would have been a big help.
Bring citronella as we had a collective 15 bites between us from one nights stay (not the fault of the pub but just a tip)

Disliked Single toilet and shower for everyone on site, and it was dirty…. Close to Road and train, so noisy.

Local attractions

There are plenty of stately homes near The Thames Head Inn if you want to get a feel for the history of the area, with Newark Park, Sudeley Castle, Dyrham Park, Bowood House and Berkeley Castle all within 45 minutes’ drive of the site. TV addict? Visit Chavenage House, 15 minutes from Thames Head, which you may recognise as the Poldark family home of Trenwith from the eponymous BBC drama… If you’re more at home in the outdoors, explore some of the many gardens within 20 minutes of the site, rub elbows with the royals on a trip to Highgrove Gardens at the private residence of Charles and Camilla or, on a grander scale, stroll around the national arboretum at Westonbirt. Got kids trailing along? Get the best of both worlds at Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens – meet the giraffes, lions and camels, then wander through the gardens at the Victorian manor house. If that’s not hitting the spot, take the kids to learn more about the Romans at Corinium Museum in Cirencester or give them Harry Potter vibes on the Swindon and Cricklade steam railway.
