Greystones Nawab Camping and Touring: Pitches with trees for shade

General

  • Small site in the Peak District National Park
  • A short drive from the famed spa town of Buxton
  • A 40-minute drive from Alton Towers; donkey sanctuary next door

Peaceful times in the Peak District National Park are pretty much a given at scenic and small Greystones Nawab Camping and Touring, with its first-rate views over green countryside. But add in proximity (an easy seven miles) to the famed Peak District spa town of Buxton and it's fairly safe to say that holidays of a highly relaxed nature are very much on the cards…

Those of a more active disposition (alongside spa days, this is also recommended around these parts) have hiking, walking, cycling, pony trekking, climbing and paragliding all close by, as well as a Go Ape centre within a mile for woodland antics. For family days, the caves of Poole’s Cavern are just outside Buxton, the Peak Wildlife Park is half an hour away and Alton Towers is within 40 minutes. A donkey sanctuary is next door to the site.

Greystones Nawab is a grassy and peaceful site in a wildlife haven, and is motorcycle, family and dog friendly. It has showers, three toilets, a washing-up area and charging facilities. Firepits are available for hire on arrival, and logs and kindling are sold on site.

Please note that the site has rare-breed chickens.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Group bookings of 8 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

Single-sex bookings of 3 or more people (couples and immediate family members excepted) are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

A charge of £1.00 ($1.23) applies for the use of the shower.

If making a fire, the fuel, logs and coal have to be purchased on site.

Please bring hand sanitiser with you if possible as there is a limited supply onsite.

Toilet and shower facilities consist of portacabins, with the washing-up area just outside them.

We stayed on the the Queen’s 70th Jubilee bank holiday the park was brilliant lots of family’s having lots of fun . We could take our dog for a walk straight from the site down a path that we never managed get to the end of after half hour of walking. Toilets and showers are basic but all in good working order (shower hot 👍 ) owner of the site friendly and walking about talking to the campers . For the price we paid it was more than we expected 😁

Great budget no frills site - small and good value06/09/2022

  • Liked:

The site is small, and therefore relatively quiet unless you count the peacocks and donkeys which personally I really enjoyed!

Good, level pitches and not too crowded together.

It is good value for money (£15pn with electric) so if you're looking for a decent no frills basic budget site in a good location in The Peaks, this is a solid choice.

    Disliked:

Paying £1 for 5 minutes of a shower that takes 30 seconds to heat up was a bit annoying; nevertheless it was clean (1 shower available only).

The location for walking without having to use the car

    Disliked:

Trying to book in by phone on arrival....it's not a good phone signal area. It meant that I felt I had to take the pitch I was given without asking for other options, knowing it was probably the least suitable for my dog. Nobody showed me where anything was. Had other arrivals coming to ask me but I could only send them to campers that had been there longer..

Local attractions

Buxton (10 to 15 minutes' drive away) has plenty to do for all ages, including tours around its Georgian architecture and ambles around the award-winning Pavilion gardens. Shopping and nightlife are most plentiful around George Street, the Quadrant and Cavendish Arcade; for kids of a small size, a soft play centre is in town.

Kids of all sizes should like going underground at Buxton's Poole's Cavern, a limestone cave surrounded by Buxton Country Park. Take a guided tour among the huge chambers of the caves to hear tales of the Stone Age people, Roman soldiers and medieval outlaws who used them; after that and above ground, there are woodland trails to wander, rabbits and woodpeckers to spot and – possibly of more interest to fatigued grownups – a café serving drinks and hot snacks.

Another spa town – again possibly of more interest to fatigued grownups – is at Matlock Bath, 20 minutes' drive away.

Must see

  • Haddon Hall (5.8 miles)
