  • Well-equipped family resort in the suburbs of Napier
  • A five-minute drive from the beach and National Aquarium
  • Pool complex, restaurant and lots of kids' activities at the park
Space to chill out or somewhere that you can pack your days with all sorts of activities? Either one is possible at Kennedy Park Resort, a well-equipped park in the suburbs of the smart North Island seaside resort of Napier. This is a family-friendly resort with heaps of things to keep the kids busy and heaps of space for the grownups to relax (surely a recipe for keeping everyone happy on holiday?) That location on the edge of Napier also means easy access to all sorts of things to do off site including trips to the beach, strolls around the city’s Art Deco centre and visits to the National Aquarium. Head out into the local countryside and mountain biking, river rafting or wine-tasting tours can be yours as well. It’s a good idea to book in here for as long as you can, given all the things to do both in the area and at the resort itself. This is a place that’s really gone for it with the leisure options, including a swimming complex with a heated pool and separate kids’ pool, a gym, a video games arcade and an adventure playground with a giant jumping pillow. And there's more… because you've not yet heard about the Sky theatre (where a giant screen shows major sporting events and the like), the summertime kids’ activities (for a small extra charge) or the pedal cars and bikes available for hire… In an area known for its food and wine, it’s no surprise to find that food is also sorted at this park – you may like to use the barbecue area, book a breakfast delivery or choose something from the restaurant menu for dinner (eat in or take away).

Local attractions

Napier itself is likely to provide a couple of days’ entertainment, with attractions like the National Aquarium of New Zealand, MTG Hawke’s Bay and Daily Telegraph Building to visit. A stroll around the city centre’s Art Deco buildings is a great way to spend time too, perhaps finished up with a wander to the beach to see the murals painted on the sea walls. The wider Hawke’s Bay area is well known to food and wine types too, so this makes a fine base for a more grownup holiday touring the various wineries around the region – you can either pick and choose independently or join a group tour on bikes or in a minibus. If wine’s not your thing, you could instead play golf at Cape Kidnappers Golf Course (half an hour’s drive), go bird-spotting with Gannet Beach Adventures (25 minutes), canoe along the Ahuriri estuary (10 minutes) or hike/bike up Te Mata Peak (half an hour).
