  • Three swimming pools, two bars, restaurant and sports facilities
Have you ticked Rome off your list of must-see Italian cities yet? Even if you’ve been before, it's a city that merits many a return trip – especially if you can mix such city outings with a bit of beach time. Villatent at Camping Village Roma Capitol is about 40 minutes’ drive from the centre of Italy’s capital city (or an hour and a half on the train) and less than 10 minutes from the beach at Ostia Lido. The set up at this Lazio site is designed to make stays as comfortable as possible. The solid safari-style tents have bedrooms, a kitchen with stove, fridge/freezer and utensils, living area, shower and toilet, plus a fan to help keep you cool. The spacious site is surrounded by grass and tall pine trees to give you some shade and bordered by the protected Roman Coast Nature Reserve. The pool complex is a highlight here: it's also edged by trees to give the three swimming pools an attractive backdrop. There’s a 25m semi-Olympic pool for getting your lengths in, a wellness pool for chilling out and a shallow pool for kids to splash about. Sports activities available on site include football, tennis, basketball and beach volleyball. And when you’re ready for a drink or a snack, head to one of the two bars or restaurant and have a rest on the shady terrace. For seaside time, the beachfront at Ostia Lido is a 10-minute drive away (or take the shuttle bus from site to Il Capanno beach club, right by the sand). Then when it’s time to eat, do as the Romans do – stroll along the boulevard and take a seat to enjoy seafood with a sunset view.

Local attractions

Scuba sorts, staying so close to the sea, you shouldn’t miss the chance to go on a diving excursion. Dive centres are dotted all along the coast around Ostia Lido catering for all levels of experience. There are various other watersports on offer too if you don't fancy being completely submerged. Of course, the main attraction for day trips is going to be Rome. With such a huge list of historical and cultural treats to explore, you could spend your whole trip sightseeing in the capital. However, don’t miss the well preserved ancient Roman port city of Ostia Antica on the River Tiber, which is only 10 minutes by car from the site. For more modern-day fun and games, Rainbow Magic Land, one of Italy’s biggest theme parks, is an hour’s drive away.
