  • Hot tub in an all-weather gazebo; dog-exercise area and woodland walks
The family-owned Madryn Castle Holiday Park sits on the stunning Llŷn Peninsula, around half an hour’s drive from Snowdonia National Park. Set on a hillside overlooking the coast, this woodland spot is also around 20 minutes’ drive from sandy beaches and pretty North Wales towns like Abersoch. Accommodation is in the elegant and understated Pritchard Lodge, an exclusive retreat for solo travellers, couples and families looking for adventure – or total relaxation – in this spectacular corner of Wales. With a private driveway and dedicated parking space, the lodge is surrounded by landscaped gardens and has its own wrap-around decking. There’s a private hot tub on the patio, covered with an all-weather gazebo. Inside, everything is open-plan, bright and spacious, with modern amenities including flatscreen TVs in every room, USB sockets, high-speed wifi, an electric fire and integrated kitchen appliances including a washer/dryer. Sleeping accommodation for up to eight is in three bedrooms; one is ensuite and there’s a family bathroom too. There’s masses of living space for everyone, and comfortable sofas to relax on in the sitting room. Leisure facilities on site include an indoor games room, play park and multi-sports court. Round and about the estate are woodland walks, ponds to splash around in and dog-exercise areas – plenty to keep you entertained when you’re taking a break from exploring the wonders of the Llŷn Peninsula and Snowdonia National Park.

Local attractions

Madryn Castle is a handy base for exploring the Llŷn Peninsula Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. While away the hours on sandy beaches like Pwllheli (15 minutes’ drive) or the family-centric beach at Abersoch (20 minutes), also good for dinghy sailing and watersports (with kit hire available at the beach). To stretch your legs, perhaps you'd like to play a round on the town’s links course, or you can choose to hike between hidden coves along the Llŷn Coastal Path (15 minutes). Test your skills with a surfboard on the consistent waves at horseshoe-shaped Porth Neigwl (20 minutes), and for more thrill-inducing action, hurtle down the zipwires at Zip World Penrhyn Quarry (an hour) in Snowdonia National Park. When more sedate pursuits are called for, tour the mighty medieval fortress of Harlech Castle (50 minutes), or spend a day rootling around Portmeirion (45 minutes), an Italianate folly of a coastal village with madcap architecture.
