  • Flat and grassy five-acre site on the edge of the Somerset Levels
  • A 15-minute drive from Taunton; Barrington Court 20 minutes
  • Dog-friendly site with easy access from the A378
As you'd expect from a site with such a name, there's a whole lot of space in which to relax and explore at 5 Acres, a large grassy site on the edge of the Somerset Levels. Kids and dogs are both welcome on site here, and there's plenty of scope for them to run about and play games safely away from barbecues and campfires (which are also permitted to keep you warm and fed in the evenings). Facilities on site include firepits, a toilet and shower block and outdoor sinks with mains water. The surrounding Somerset Levels aren’t just out in the sticks – they also produce them. Willow cane has been cultivated the traditional way in this part of the county for hundreds of years and can be seen growing within a mile of 5 Acres. The Levels are also a wildlife haven, making them an all-round top choice for country walks along the many trails nearby. And while this may be a rural retreat, it's also one that's easy to get to as it's just off the A378 (no winding country lanes to negotiate for this one…) Taunton town centre, with its wide range of shops and supermarkets, is a 15-minute drive away. The closest pub and coffee shop are five minutes away by road.

What customers say

Awesome kiwi campground! Clean, quirky loos (horsebox!), friendly hosts. Big, flat sites, some with fire pits/sinks. Occasional road noise, patchy signal. Most keen to return despite minor grass/light niggles.

Unpowered grass tent or motorhome site

Liked Quiet, basic site with large, flat pitches. Lovely long unborn grass in the centre of the field attracts lots of butterflies, fire pits allowed, easy to find.

Disliked An unpleasant couple staying next to the facilities with a dog that barked aggressively every time someone walked nearby to use the showers. Not the camp sites fault. Large pitches so I moved to the other side of the camp site and walked the long way round to avoid passing their motorhome.

Powered grass tent or motorhome site (premium, private bathroom amenities)

Liked We had a fantastic stay at this campsite and would happily return. The enclosed pitch was perfect for our dogs, giving them plenty of safe space to roam and play off lead while we relaxed. Having a private kitchen, toilet, and shower on the pitch was a real luxury and made the whole experience so much more comfortable.

The site itself was lovely and peaceful, with a quiet atmosphere that made it easy to unwind. There were also plenty of amenities nearby, making it easy to pick up supplies or explore the local area.

The only downside was the lack of WiFi and very limited phone signal, which might be an issue if you need to stay connected.

Overall, a brilliant campsite with excellent facilities, especially for dog owners. Highly recommended.

Liked Latin was excellent and the toilet and shower facilities were clean and very good. Plenty of hot water and reasonable pressure. The pitches are huge and gives plenty of space for isolation and distance.

Disliked Would recommend to take a head torch in to the shower at night as there is no light. The only down side.

Unpowered grass tent or motorhome site

Liked Layout, not too crowded, good areas for children to roam safely. Fire pits at all pitches. Water/ washing up well spread.
A good choice for people who like more natural camping even though it has all that’s needed!

Liked This is the second time we’ve stayed here, but the first time just the two of us. I think we got lucky with the dates because we had the place mostly to ourselves, and the few other campers we did see were very kind & friendly, just like the owner. It’s z very simple campsite but it has all the necessities; the showers were nice & hot and the toilets kept clean & tidy. Overall we had a wonderful time, and I hope we’re able to return again next year!

Local attractions

First time in the West Country? Get your bearings at the Museum of Somerset (15 minutes' drive), a family-friendly local history exhibit housed in the grand surrounds of Taunton Castle. Other history-infused haunts, like National Trust-managed Barrington Court (20 minutes) and Coleridge's Cottage (40 minutes), are also pretty sure to help you get a feel for the place. Already a maven in all things southwestern? Skip the history lesson and get straight out for rambles in the Quantock Hills (20 minutes). The coast is also within range, whether you opt to head north to the Bristol Channel for swims at Kilve beach (40 minutes) or a trip to Watchet arcade (40 minutes) or south to Lyme Regis (45 minutes) on Dorset's Jurassic Coast. If you're looking to branch out from your common and garden holiday attractions, take a closer look at the traditional willow products on display at Coates English Willow Visitor Centre (10 minutes). More local produce can be inspected (and tasted) at promisingly named Sheppy's House of Cider (15 minutes), a well-established Somerset firm where you can analyse dry, medium and sweet varieties.
