  • Luxury dog-friendly cabins with woodfired hot tubs with sea views
  • Within walking distance of Norman’s Bay and the local pub
  • Each hot tub has a bathroom, chimenea/barbecue and a small kitchen
These 17th-century manor grounds have taken on a new role: nowadays, they don’t play host to tea parties, but rather a set of three luxury dog-friendly log cabins with woodfired hot tubs and views of the distant sea and the South Downs. Walk straight ahead of this setting and in around 40 minutes, you shall arrive at Herbrand Walk and Norman’s Bay, which is dog-friendly year-round. A Norman invasion landed here in 1066, but your invasion should be far more focused on peaceful swims and a pitstop and a pitstop at the hotel restaurant serving food. Soaking in the sea completed, a soak in the hot tub might be next up. Each log cabin has a woodfired hot tub, along with a kingsize bed, a small fridge and freezer, cooking utensils, a dining table, a sofa (which doubles up as a sofa bed, although you'll need to bring your own bedding if you plan to use this), board games and cards and a chimenea which doubles up as a barbecue. The bathrooms have a flushing loo, sink and hot shower. Hiking up the chalky Seven Sisters Cliffs is achievable here, as they are only half an hour’s drive away. Spending your days strolling along the Sussex coast and chilling on local beaches (like Norman’s Bay or Bexhill beach, 10 minutes’ drive away) are always nicely rounded off with a glass of wine on the patio. In Bexhill, cafés and ice cream places plus fish and chips are likely to equal happy kids (and add a bike ride into that equation, and you’re exceeding expectations). The beach in Bexhill is dog-friendly between September and April. There are, of course, pubs in Bexhill, but the closest is in Little Common, just 20 minutes’ walk away from the log cabins (a splendid supper point).

Pevensey Bay 1 bedroom camping pod

Liked: Amazing place to get away to for a couple of nights. The cabin was amazing everything had been thought of. We took out 14 and 15 year olds and a pop up camp bed so they didn’t have to share the sofa bed. The hot tub didn’t take as long to heat as we expected and once was up to temperature stayed hot for ages with the lid on (like overnight) - would definitely recommend, you’d need at least 2 nights though as the check in and out times are quite late and early respectively. Thinking of going again with some other families - we stayed in October and it was very warm in the cabin. There’s no Wi-Fi but an abundance of DVDs kept us entertained and you don’t really go somewhere like this to watch TV!

Local attractions

If animal attractions are your sort of thing, Drusillas Park (25 minutes’ drive) is a very good spot. Hundreds of animals are the main attraction, but of course, those play areas and the mini water park will surely have the kids very excited to run to and fro. Exchange the animals for historic sites in Hastings (20 minutes), where there’s a historic pier, museums and a Norman castle. Once your history lesson is fully accomplished, the beach or Flamingo Park’s rides are two ways to let your hair down even more. A seafront ice cream or coffee is a must too, surely? Camber Sands (50 minutes) is a little unusual for a Sussex beach – the reason is in the name. One of the only beaches with fine, golden sand, it also has east Sussex’s only sand dunes (and it’s possible to get your fish and chips served on the beach – bonus points).
