  • Cosy family-run farm site three miles from the edge of the Cotswolds
  • Cotswold Wildlife Park five minutes’ drive; Oxford 40 minutes
  • On-site shop selling fresh produce; firepit provided for each pitch
Cocoon down for a rather cosy stay at West End Farm Camping, three miles from the edge of the Cotswolds National Landscape. Pitches at this small and intimate family-run site are in a grassy plot surrounded by fields grazed by animals or left to grow for hay. West End Farm is just outside Shilton and a five-minute drive from the town of Burford and the Cotswold Wildlife Park & Gardens, meaning that you’ll also be well connected to several local attractions. This is a rural location, so the views come in strong – the site looks over the Cotswold hills and the Ridgeway National Trail. Handily, walking and cycling paths are not far away either, and there are lots of routes leading into pretty Cotswold villages and towns. From here though, you’ll be particularly primed to see Burford’s medieval bridge, church and antiques shops, or to potter into Shilton village (10 minutes’ walk) to relax by its ford or to visit its friendly pub. The site has a small shop stocked with meats such as pork and beef, plus eggs, bread and locally produced jams and honey, and each pitch has its own firepit to keep you warm on alfresco evenings (or even cook your dinner if you like). Other facilities on site include clean compost toilets and hot-water showers.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked Lovely campsite in the countryside, within a short walk of a quiet village with a friendly pub. Excellent communication from Celia, who also greeted us on arrival. There was plenty of space on and around the level, grassy pitches, and we had no issues with the composting toilets or showers. It's a working farm, so there are plenty of animals to see. The on-site shop was useful. The night we arrived there was also a pop-up food van and bar in the field by the barn, with lots of locals and other campers enjoying it. We'd neglected to book a meal at the pub, so we were able to have delicious food on site instead, which gave us a chance to chat with the friendly food van owners. Lots to see and do nearby, notably some beautiful walks and the amazing Cotswold Wildlife Park.

Disliked Nothing. This is a perfect place for a simple, quiet getaway.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked We loved it here and we're lucky enough to arrive when only 1 other tent was pitched so there was no wait for toilets or showers. Was a novelty going through the barn to the pitches and Celia provided us with fuel for a fire which was lovely in the evening (we visited 30th April)

Disliked There were some noisy crows nested there but if youre an early riser anyway like us they won't impact a visit!

From the manager: Thanks for your kind comment. Glad you enjoyed your visit, sorry about the rooks. They are very annoying.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked Me and my partner had a fantastic 2 nights stay here. We were also lucky enough to be the only guests at the time, it was incredibly peaceful and relaxing. There's a fridge for guests, perfect if you happen to buy some of their meat products from the farm shop.
The host, Celia, was lovely and we had a nice chat regarding the farm. She also recommended us places to visit within the Cotswolds.

Dark skies at night so perfect for stargazing!

The site is a nice base if you're planning on visiting Clarkson's farm/Pub as well as other attractions (we highly recommend Crocodiles of the World).

Definitely would stay here again!

Disliked It's NOT the camping's fault but there are some noisy crows by the trees, although this did not really bother us.

Basic compost toilets and showers that might put off some people but again, we knew this coming in and it was never a problem for us. It even added to the experience! ha!

From the manager: Thank you for your comments. We are happy you enjoyed your stay. We will tell the rooks to behave themselves from now on.

Liked Great site, simple essentials all on site. Great location, nice local pub and the kids enjoyed paddling in the river. Based on a working farm, we purchased sausages from the shop and witnessed a calf being born!

Local attractions

Giraffes, lions and primates are just some of the residents at Cotswold Wildlife Park & Gardens (five minutes’ drive), where a lively programme of events includes feeding sessions, animal encounters and talks. When the kids are all animal-ed out, take them to the park’s Skymaze adventure playground, with treehouses and jungle bridges. On the upper fringes of the North Wessex Downs National Landscape is the Uffington White Horse (40 minutes), an equine figure carved into the side of a chalky hill in the Bronze Age. Other prehistoric remains in the area include the Iron Age Uffingdon Castle hillfort and several Neolithic burial mounds. Besides its famed universities, Oxford (40 minutes) also has the world-class Ashmolean Museum, which displays collections of western and eastern art, plus antiquities and musical instruments. Take a tour of the Bodleian Library, or book yourself on a relaxing cruise on the River Thames.
