  • Cosy family-run farm site three miles from the edge of the Cotswolds
  • Cotswold Wildlife Park five minutes’ drive; Oxford 40 minutes
  • On-site shop selling fresh produce; firepit provided for each pitch
Cocoon down for a rather cosy stay at West End Farm Camping, three miles from the edge of the Cotswolds National Landscape. Pitches at this small and intimate family-run site are in a grassy plot surrounded by fields grazed by animals or left to grow for hay. West End Farm is just outside Shilton and a five-minute drive from the town of Burford and the Cotswold Wildlife Park & Gardens, meaning that you’ll also be well connected to several local attractions. This is a rural location, so the views come in strong – the site looks over the Cotswold hills and the Ridgeway National Trail. Handily, walking and cycling paths are not far away either, and there are lots of routes leading into pretty Cotswold villages and towns. From here though, you’ll be particularly primed to see Burford’s medieval bridge, church and antiques shops, or to potter into Shilton village (10 minutes’ walk) to relax by its ford or to visit its friendly pub. The site has a small shop stocked with meats such as pork and beef, plus eggs, bread and locally produced jams and honey, and each pitch has its own firepit to keep you warm on alfresco evenings (or even cook your dinner if you like). Other facilities on site include clean compost toilets and hot-water showers.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Great place if you want to escape away from the real world. Very quiet rural campsite with one of the best pubs around just down the road. Has everything you need. And some beautiful views in the countryside away from any main roads. On a clear night, the stars really pop.

Disliked It doesn't affect me or bother me, but there are cows right next to the campsite, which in the morning do like to give you a moo

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Loved the campsite was lovely and quiet and waking up to the cows mooing was lovely and they had some calf’s born whilst we were there. Toilets and showers were great no issues, lovely hot showers. Huge pitches for your tent. Celia was lovely and very helpful highly recommend this campsite, we will definitely be returning next year.

Disliked Shop shuts early on a Saturday I guess but that’s about it.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked A lovely campsite, the animals were a great addition. The owner communication was great and very welcoming. The pitch size was lovely and we could choose our own pitch as it was a quiet check in day that particular day. Great to stay on an eco friendly facilities farm.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked A lovely welcome from Celia before we arrived.
We stayed at the site for nine days, which was longer than most but plenty to do in the area. We didn’t actually have time to do it all!
It was fun driving through a barn full of cows to get to the field, with lots of mummy cows and their babies! Three were born while we were there too, which was lovely and a great thing for our son to see.
The showers were lovely and warm and the compost loos clean.
Really close to the local pub for a wander in the lovely village of Shilton. You can also walk across to Clarkson’s pub if you enjoy a wander.
An enclosed picnic area for little ones with under cover tables to shelter from the rain.
A great back to basics family farm with chickens, pigs, cows, a farm shop for milk, eggs etc (and tasty burgers!), and a lovely, friendly family at the helm!

Would definitely visit again.

Disliked Maybe check pitches are clear of other people’s rubbish before new arrivals? Don't trust they’ve done it!

Group bookings and groups of teen girls about to go to uni. We’d had several lovely, quiet evenings watching bright stars and the moon get fuller so it was disappointing a small number of people came along over a couple of nights and didn’t appreciate the ambience of the farm and be respectful of the animals, as most did. This is a site for people that appreciate quiet, nature, and very basic facilities.

A shelter over the sink, a drain pipe that doesn’t keep coming undone, and some hot water to wash pots would make it perfect!

Liked The campsite is on a working family farm. The family are all very helpful and friendly. The pitches are a great size and the showers are nice and warm. The farm sells their own meat in the shop which was excellent.

Disliked Not a massive fan of composing toilets but appreciate these are more practical and better for the environment.

Liked The quite clean campsite. They also sell great food from the farm shop we had the bacon and burgers during our stay and both where great. It was a great Cotswold location just seven minutes drive from the Farmers dog pub. Really near Burford.

Local attractions

Giraffes, lions and primates are just some of the residents at Cotswold Wildlife Park & Gardens (five minutes’ drive), where a lively programme of events includes feeding sessions, animal encounters and talks. When the kids are all animal-ed out, take them to the park’s Skymaze adventure playground, with treehouses and jungle bridges. On the upper fringes of the North Wessex Downs National Landscape is the Uffington White Horse (40 minutes), an equine figure carved into the side of a chalky hill in the Bronze Age. Other prehistoric remains in the area include the Iron Age Uffingdon Castle hillfort and several Neolithic burial mounds. Besides its famed universities, Oxford (40 minutes) also has the world-class Ashmolean Museum, which displays collections of western and eastern art, plus antiquities and musical instruments. Take a tour of the Bodleian Library, or book yourself on a relaxing cruise on the River Thames.
