  • Cosy family-run farm site three miles from the edge of the Cotswolds
  • Cotswold Wildlife Park five minutes’ drive; Oxford 40 minutes
  • On-site shop selling fresh produce; firepit provided for each pitch
Cocoon down for a rather cosy stay at West End Farm Camping, three miles from the edge of the Cotswolds National Landscape. Pitches at this small and intimate family-run site are in a grassy plot surrounded by fields grazed by animals or left to grow for hay. West End Farm is just outside Shilton and a five-minute drive from the town of Burford and the Cotswold Wildlife Park & Gardens, meaning that you’ll also be well connected to several local attractions. This is a rural location, so the views come in strong – the site looks over the Cotswold hills and the Ridgeway National Trail. Handily, walking and cycling paths are not far away either, and there are lots of routes leading into pretty Cotswold villages and towns. From here though, you’ll be particularly primed to see Burford’s medieval bridge, church and antiques shops, or to potter into Shilton village (10 minutes’ walk) to relax by its ford or to visit its friendly pub. The site has a small shop stocked with meats such as pork and beef, plus eggs, bread and locally produced jams and honey, and each pitch has its own firepit to keep you warm on alfresco evenings (or even cook your dinner if you like). Other facilities on site include clean compost toilets and hot-water showers.

What customers say

Friendly farm with spacious pitches, fire pits & bins. Basic but clean facilities (hot showers, compost toilets) and farm animals get a thumbs up. Great shop! Peaceful setting, though crows and shower temps can be a bit much for some.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked I received a warm welcome on arrival, everything was explained perfectly. The pitch size was huge and nicely spaced from the other pitches. This was the most basic camp site we have ever stayed at and it was perfect for us, compost toilets, lovely hot shows, drinking water, a washing up area and a fridge which is a brilliant idea! There’s a shop selling various supplies and being a working farm, it was great to say hi to all of the animals.

Disliked Nothing, this was the perfect for us whilst attending a wedding a few miles away.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Beautiful grounds, the working farm is wonderful to watch! The site is quiet and relaxing, overlooking the cows. Basic facilities for a few nights stay. Large, well-maintained pitches, with fire pits which were a great bonus. Pitches marked out with mown areas so a nice private feel. Lovely kids toys and play area, with fridges for use. The owners are helpful and informative, with an on site shop for anything you need. A wonderful place to relax for a few days, or a great base for exploring!

Disliked The compost toilets aren’t for everyone but knew this when booking! However, clean and relatively low smell. Watch the general waste bins- they are not for all general waste but toilet waste only? (large green bins on site for all other waste). Low flying jets and planes flying over during the days (great to watch!)- just bear in mind if you don’t want the occasional noise overhead!

From the manager: Glad you enjoyed your visit. Sorry if bins were confusing. Bins by loos were for blue roll only not for toilet waste. Thanks for your review.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Beautiful, quiet campsite with basic but clean facilities and large, well marked pitches. I stayed here with my 6 year old daughter for a night and we both had a lovely time. The owners are very friendly and welcoming and the attached farm shop is great. We bought some delicious burgers and sausages for our BBQ. Highly recommended!

Disliked Not a criticism of the campsite in any way but bear in mind there’s not much shade around the site at all, so plan appropriately!

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thanks for review Glad you enjoyed the shop. The hot temperatures have certainly made things difficult. Only shade on one side. We never had to worry about how much shade we had before. Glad you enjoyed your stay

Would definitely go back!

Local attractions

Giraffes, lions and primates are just some of the residents at Cotswold Wildlife Park & Gardens (five minutes’ drive), where a lively programme of events includes feeding sessions, animal encounters and talks. When the kids are all animal-ed out, take them to the park’s Skymaze adventure playground, with treehouses and jungle bridges. On the upper fringes of the North Wessex Downs National Landscape is the Uffington White Horse (40 minutes), an equine figure carved into the side of a chalky hill in the Bronze Age. Other prehistoric remains in the area include the Iron Age Uffingdon Castle hillfort and several Neolithic burial mounds. Besides its famed universities, Oxford (40 minutes) also has the world-class Ashmolean Museum, which displays collections of western and eastern art, plus antiquities and musical instruments. Take a tour of the Bodleian Library, or book yourself on a relaxing cruise on the River Thames.
