  • Spacious and dog-friendly 12-acre site in the Derbyshire Dales
  • A 15-minute drive to Ashbourne; 40 minutes to Chatsworth Estate
  • Shop and fishing ponds on site
Grab your walking boots, your fishing kit and your dog and get set for some relaxing time in the Derbyshire Dales at Blackbrook Lodge Camping and Caravanning, between the villages of Turnditch and Brailsford. This 12-acre site is well placed for walks and other outdoor activities – the edge of the Peak District National Park is about 20 minutes’ drive away, you can pick up the traffic-free Tissington Trail about 15 minutes away and there’s a good collection of watersports to be had at Carsington Water, 10 minutes away. And the fishing? Well, that’s right there where you’re staying – this site has both a main fishing lake and two ponds filled with carp for lazy days by the water. Away from the ponds, the main camping field is set back from the road and has space for kids to run around freely. Other facilities on site include a small shop for essentials, a washing-up area, toilets and hot showers that are available 24 hours a day. There are several pubs and restaurants within 10 minutes’ drive to keep the tribe fed, or you’re welcome to bring along a barbecue. If you go for the latter option, there’s a farm shop about 10 minutes’ drive away for delicious local goodies, and it’s the same distance to a supermarket for any other essentials. Please note that chocks or levellers may be needed.

What customers say

Friendly staff, spacious pitches, and clean facilities, with a popular fishing lake. Good value and peaceful setting are highlights. Some pitches are sloped, and facilities can be dated or crowded during peak times. Improvements are being made.

Liked Great facilities, kept lovely and clean.
Fishing pond on site, we don't fish but loved having a walk around it feeding the ducks. The carp also came up to the surface, our grandchildren thought it was amazing to see them.
Really liked the electric hookup and water taps on each pitch.
Liked the peaceful location between Belper and Ashbourne.

Disliked The site was mostly hardcore/ gravel, not much greenery.
I know the hot dry weather doesn't help but it was very dusty.
Pitches are very close together, if you are where we were at the top of the field. Our neighbour had a porch awning on their van which came to the edge of our pitch and when we put our porch awning up it came to our other neighbours boundary, and so on for the row of vans.

Liked Lovely location very handy for local towns / villages.

The lady in reception was very pleasant, showed us where the amenities were, explained local dog walks both on & off site an recommended a local takeaway (which we did not use).

The bathrooms / showers were vey clean & tidy with lovely hand soaps.

There was a pot wash area, which was always clean & tidy - we did not use this as had our own facilities.

Large pitches with hardstanding and grassed area for each pitch.

WIFI available at the shop area but does not reach the pitches - well not ours but good mobile phone coverage so can use mobile data.

Shop had a good choice of amenities including alcohol if needed & fresh eggs also available.

Some caravans had seasonal residents and all the ones near us were so very friendly, respectful & chatty.

We had a lovely 2 night stay and will return to this site in the future - Cant wait to see the progress with the site upgrades.

Disliked Absolutely not dislikes but worth noting for anyone visiting soon:

The site is having building work undertaken and from what we could see this is new lodges being put in so can be a little unsettling but there was no noise at all or any disruption.

Some of the seasonal pitches were tired and a bit unkempt but each to there own.

Again not a dislike but the female showers have no area to dry yourself within the cubicle which is wet after the shower - Just makes things a little tricky - I opted to get dry / dressed near the sinks which is fine but if you like your privacy this could be an issue.

Powered concrete and grass caravan site

Liked Modern toilet and shower blocks.

Disliked Pitches neglected and on a considerable slope overlooking scruffy permanent plots Location meant frequent road noise from nearby quarry and nothing around for a few miles.

From the manager: We look at all reviews to help us improve or change but when people book and don’t look at our description, then we cannot use these reviews.

The pitches are not neglected but dry and crisp like the whole of the country.

There s a road but it is not the M1 , within a ten minute drive you have Belper or Ashbourne both great market towns with amazing shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs to cater for all tastes.

Within a five minute drive , you have a petrol station that sells everything, a pub and a farm shop.

Sorry you won’t be returning but please do your homework before leaving a review on another site

Local attractions

There are so many great spot to choose from in the Peak District National Park – perhaps you’d like to go for a family bike ride on the Tissington Trail from Ashbourne (15 minutes’ drive), hop across the stepping stones at Dovedale (25 minutes) or finish up a hike by sampling the traditional puddings in Bakewell (35 minutes)? A visit to the Chatsworth Estate (40 minutes) is a must – for the farm shop, adventure playground and farmyard as much as the house and gardens themselves – and the nearby Kedleston Hall National Trust estate (10 minutes) is another spot that’s worth a visit. For more ideas to keep the kids happy, try the watersports and bike rides at Carsington Water (10 minutes), days out at Gulliver’s Kingdom family theme park (20 minutes) or a cable car ride with splendid views at Heights of Abraham (20 minutes).
