Blackbrook Lodge Camping and Caravanning: Pond with Pods

General

  • Spacious and dog-friendly 12-acre site in the Derbyshire Dales
  • A 15-minute drive to Ashbourne; 40 minutes to Chatsworth Estate
  • Shop and fishing ponds on site

Grab your walking boots, your fishing kit and your dog and get set for some relaxing time in the Derbyshire Dales at Blackbrook Lodge Camping and Caravanning, between the villages of Turnditch and Brailsford.

This 12-acre site is well placed for walks and other outdoor activities – the edge of the Peak District National Park is about 20 minutes’ drive away, you can pick up the traffic-free Tissington Trail about 15 minutes away and there’s a good collection of watersports to be had at Carsington Water, 10 minutes away.

And the fishing? Well, that’s right there where you’re staying – this site has both a main fishing lake and two ponds filled with carp for lazy days by the water. Away from the ponds, the main camping field is set back from the road and has space for kids to run around freely.

Other facilities on site include a small shop for essentials, a washing-up area, toilets and hot showers that are available 24 hours a day. There are several pubs and restaurants within 10 minutes’ drive to keep the tribe fed, or you’re welcome to bring along a barbecue. If you go for the latter option, there’s a farm shop about 10 minutes’ drive away for delicious local goodies, and it’s the same distance to a supermarket for any other essentials.

Please note that chocks or levellers may be needed.

Please note

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the campground/park are unlit.

This was a hidden gem I randomly chose when looking for pods to stay in, and i’m glad i chose it! The site was lovely and peaceful, pod was overlooking the lake and ducks. The pod was comfy and cosy, you can tell effort has gone into making them look lovely. The furnishings and decor are duck themed like the house and are lovely. Bed was built in with mattress so no air bed required, plates, mugs, coffee/ tea , cutlery, teapot all included for use. Pod was exceptionally clean and tidy well worth the £60! facilities were nice and clean and lit up all day/night. It is less than a minute walk to toilet block. Felt safe and secure in the secluded location it was bliss. Will definitely be making a return journey. Owners were lovely too. Wifi not accessible from pod however not an issue if wanting to use 4G data as that worked fine

    Disliked:

I found it difficult hanging items up as coat hook was behind fridge & microwave, would be a bit easier to access in another spot in the pod but nothing else other than that as it was brilliant.

From the manager...

Thankyou Sophie, it was lovely to meet you and to read your brilliant review on the Duck pod, we are looking at the hanging space and will resolve this, hope to see you again x

Motorhome was sinking on the hardstanding pitch.
Dog poo bin looked like it hadnt been emptied for days, full to the brim.
    Facilities were messy.

From the manager...

We’re sorry you didn’t enjoy your stay, but if you had come to us with pitch difficulties, we could have sorted the pitch
The facilities are cleaned twice a day , again we are always on site as we explained and could have made your stay more pleasant, if you spoke to us

    Site clean and tidy

    Disliked:

Upon arrival there wasn’t an area for arrivals to check in so I pulled up opposite the office, I given a electric top up card and informed the entrance to touring site is behind me and runs in the opposite direction parallel with the main entrance, so I had to pull in front of office and reverse back turning 90 degrees to turn the caravan round 360 degrees, you cannot drive straight onto site from main drive because there is a tree in the way. I was told we were on pitch 11 problem was the pitch numbers are painted on a slab that is below grass surface so it was covered in mud and rain water. Pitches are about 11m in depth but slope from front to rear, my caravan is 8.5m in length, because of the slope I couldn’t get van level even with hitch on the floor. On arrival there was very little in guidance from site personnel, this was the first time I had used a electric top up card so had a problem getting electric on but there was no one in office to ask for help.
Toilets clean but shower needs work, mould around sealant.

From the manager...

Thankyou for your review Malcolm, the office is the check in area, i apologise if full instructions on the top up card were not given, that was an oversight.
There is a road from the office that enables caravans to drive round , and ensures that you are facing the right way to drive up to the hardstanding area.
The pitch numbers as explained are on the electric boxes, it is highlighted on pitch up that there is a slope and blocks may be needed for certain vehicles.
I did explain that if we were not in the office, as we are a family run site and at times will be doing jobs on the site, to ring us anytime and we would have assisted you.
The toilets are having a full modernisation after the new year.
If you had spoke to us, whilst you were on site, we could have helped and made a better stay

I LOVED everything about this camp site. I stayed in their DUCK camping pod, and it was perfect! I was informed a few days before that sadly their kitchen leaked, but they made sure I still had toaster, kettle, microwave and a fridge and crockery etc! Apparently they went out to get the fridge especially - which was really thoughtful.
The toilets & showers were extremely clean, and i liked the fact they had music playing.
    I would 100% go back

    Disliked:

    noting :)

From the manager...

Thankyou Kelly, as you were the first to stop in the pod since being made self sufficient, its great to read , that you had everything you needed.
Hope to see you again soon x
