  • Peaceful family-friendly campsite set in South Finistère countryside
  • A 10-minute drive to Atlantic beaches; half an hour to Quimper
  • Bar, restaurant and grocery store; swimming pool and games room
Just the job for a family foray into Finistère and a browse around Brittany, family-family Camping Les Peupliers is a peaceful rural site with bags of room for kids to play in safety. Located 10 minutes’ drive from Atlantic beaches on the Bay of Audierne, it’s also five minutes’ drive from pretty Pouldreuzic and half an hour from the manyfold attractions of Quimper. Everything has been well thought out here to help your holiday can go with a swing: you can pick up fresh baguettes and pastries (summer only) from the grocery shop, along with delicious local produce to add to your meals (there’s also a herb garden for all you aspiring gourmets), and rely on the snack bar overlooking the pool to keep the kids going during the day. Challenge your offspring to billiards and table football or flop in front of the TV in the games room (which also has books to borrow and Breton board games), let toddlers burn off energy on the bouncy castle or take the whole family to meet the resident sheep, goats, chickens, roosters and ducks. The owners of the well-maintained and neatly landscaped park take pride in its eco credentials: the swimming pool is chlorine-free and filtered by plants, while other sustainable processes include energy and water saving, waste management and the promotion of the site as a refuge for wildlife.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked: We stayed here the day we arrived from Ireland for one night after travelling from Roscoff. The perfect place if you have all you need on board to rest after a long journey and would be great for families with young children. We had a lovely cosy pitch on grass surrounded by bushes and trees. Our dog loved it. No food available in October (15th) and pool is really for the summer. Very nice hosts and we were able to use the games room to watch the French rugby game with another couple.

Disliked: It’s about a 15 mins walk to the village so best to have your supplies with you. Nearest beach is a 20 mins drive. So if you have a small van ok ours is a big one so not ideal for moving other than when we are going to our next destination.

From the manager: Thank you very much for your kind review. We're delighted that you enjoyed your stay! Regarding the swimming pool, it was used extensively between April and June, as well as in September. It's not just for the summer, but it's an outdoor pool that's used more when the weather's fine. It's true that the centre of the village is a bit far on foot, so you at least need bicycles to get to the first shop easily. On the other hand, the sea is not 20 minutes away by car; it takes just over 5 min to cover the 4km that separate us from the sea.

Une expérience à merveille - avec une piscine à en rêver.

Electric optional grass pitch

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked: Friendly and helpful owner. Nice private pitches with hedges between. We loved how eco friendly it was - lots of recycling and chickens, horses, goats and sheep in the field. The herb garden is a lovely idea. Nice hot showers.

Disliked: Nothing

Local attractions

If you can wrestle the children away from the pool and the games room, have a potter down to Pouldreuzic (five minutes’ drive or 20 minutes’ stroll) to tour the Musée La Maison Hénaff and its canning factory, famous for distinctive blue-and-yellow tins of Brittany pâté. To sample more local produce, head for the tasting room at Cidrerie Kerné or indulge in fine chocolate and pastries from Patrick Robinet Chocolatier. Discover the Atlantic coastline on a ferry trip from Esquibien (25 minutes) out to the tiny Île-de-Sein, or take a day trip from Bénodet (half an hour) to the sandy beaches of the Glénan Islands, where you can hire sailing dinghies, go diving or follow the wooden boardwalk along the shoreline. Other landmarks along the Brittany coast include the mighty Phare d’Eckmühl lighthouse (also half an hour) and the rugged Pointe de la Torche (25 minutes) on a peninsula popular with surfers. Turning inland, spend a day exploring the churches, museums and gardens of Quimper (half an hour) and have a wander around the half-timbered streets of the old town before settling in a pavement café to enjoy a glass of chilled Brittany cider.
