This large and lively family park has kids’ clubs run by the cunning Foxy, free evening entertainment by the Stripey Coats, crazy golf to go loopy at and an indoor heated pool, which are also…free. As is the wifi in the clubhouse. Huzzah. Widemouth Bay Caravan Park’s location is also pretty smilesome: on a hilltop overlooking the Cornish countryside and the fab Widemouth Bay with its three miles of sand. There are over 50 acres to lose yourself in around the park and pretend you never have to go home, with the takeaway, well-stocked shop and tasty meals at the bar keeping you sorted for nosh and a launderette looking after the essentials. Looking for yet more things to do on site? Challenge the kids on the amusements or show them how to hustle on the pool table – letting them beat you should result in even more wide smiles…

A hilly site with lovely sea views. Staff are friendly, facilities are clean (new showers too!). Families love the entertainment and activities. Some found pitches waterlogged or uneven, and older showers lacked hot water. Pool booking and occasional noise were noted.

Liked Great campsite. Club house offers entertainment and fun for the kids but it is not intrusive, it is there if you want it. Staff are great.

Wifi is limited at tenta, even if you pay. This was a positive for me as it was nice to get away from it all but just to be aware if anyone doesn't need to work when away.

Liked The staff do an amazing job. The choice of facilities were good. The entertainment was good. The cleaning crew worked hard. Pool was ok, small but adequate.

Disliked Location was on a hill, with camping at the very top. This made a long walk each day to use facilities and was very windy, unsheltered area. Toilets/showers were plenty, but with so many people using it was always dirty. This is more on the people using not the cleaners. People were very noisy and disrespectful of fellow campers. Maybe the caravan part of the park was better. Would not stay again. Not able to walk from the site to anywhere, steep country road with no path. Even though the coastal path is not far from site. Underwhelming site

Disliked The kitchen staff are so very very rude young lady slammed 2 portions of mushrooms down on my table and when I asked her what was the reason for doing this she just ignored me walked away so I went to the desk to ask why she did that I was called a bully because she was 15 they should not have 15 year olds with absolutely horrible attitude bringing the food out and I still did not get an explanation why she slammed the pots of mushrooms down and no answer given as to why I have the right to ask her why she did it and then called a bully off an old woman that come out the back of the kitchen shame she did not see the attitude of the girl.

Liked I loved this campsite. The club house was great, kids enjoyed the pool and a ten minute coastal walk to the beach.

Disliked We were in a really windy spot and the tent got battered by the wind.

Disliked As our Van broke down terminally on way therefore we could not arrive, new engine is going to cost £2850.00 and your POLICY will not refund us even though it was beyond our control, and we lost our £240.00 payment which has tipped us over £3000.00 for 1 weeks mistake in booking you in the first place. Spoke to John Fowlers who's customer service is DIABOLICAL and point blank refused to refund me, and told me you wouldnt either, we even offered to take a different week once our van was fixed, again refused. So no not happy, didnt get to experience it, and we have learnrd our lesson and WILL NOT book again in the future. If I had a choice of zero stars I would tick it.

Widemouth Bay is where you’ll find the surf: if you’re new to launching yourself happily into the waves there are surf and bodyboarding schools dotted all around here and Bude, and Newquay is within 50 minutes' drive. Bude less than 10 minutes by car has a couple of excellent beaches: Summerleaze, to have a dip in the sea pool at the bottom of the cliffs and to bag a beach hut for hire so you can pretend for one fleeting afternoon that it’s your very own, and Crooklets, which you can reach by a short stroll from Summerleaze Down. Both beaches, and the sea pool at Summerleaze, are lifeguarded. The staff at Widemouth Bay Caravan Park recommends a car to see the best of Cornwall, but you won’t have very far to drive to reach most of the main hotspots: the Eden Project is about 50 minutes away, and Tintagel, legendary home of King Arthur and Merlin, is just along the coast.
