  • Family-friendly park 10 minutes' drive from Newquay
  • Covering 56 acres including a dedicated dog area
  • Pool, play zones, clubhouse and fish and chip takeaway
There’ll be plenty of time for monkey business in this family-friendly site… Surrounded by a whopping 56 acres of countryside and a fab place for taking toddlers, Monkey Tree Holiday Park is 10 minutes from Perranporth and its huge open beach, as well as the lively surf centre of Newquay. As you might already (luckily) know, the north coast of Cornwall is tiptop for beaches – Newquay's famed for its world-class waves and heady nightlife, while Perranporth has kayaking and hovercrafting to get adventurously stuck into, and top-notch coastal walks on either side of the beach. Back at base, catch a few pages of your book while the kids splash about in the outdoor heated pool complex… or while they join in with the packed entertainment schedule for juniors (there's a talented in-house entertainment team on hand with a daily kids' club and Funky Monkey putting in a regular appearance). On top of that, a maze of net walkways, slides and ball pools means that younger guests will have plenty to keep them entertained, whatever the weather. Food's sorted with the on-site clubhouse and restaurant, and fish and chip takeaway (fish and chips + seaside = essential). Or fire up the barbecue instead: hit up the camp store for the essentials, or head to the grocery store 10 minutes away.

Powered grass campsite

Liked The pool was amazing but if you are on your own with a non swimmer, you are confined to an area which shelves from 0.2m to about 0.7m depth (in a couple of very small areas).

Disliked The pool was first come, first served, in a heatwave, and there were big queues. Locals were also being allowed to come in on day passes. So we had to rearrange our days after being refused entry. If people queued for both morning and afternoon sessions, they got in for both while others who had young children or people with health conditions couldn't queue, so didn't get in at all. Why not do 3 x 2 hr bookable sessions, so everyone know whats they're doing with their day and can get in? Entertainment was way too loud. Lots of camping pitches back onto hedge rows and we found that campers walked across our pitch to get through holes in the hedge behind our tent, using it as a rat run. Really annoying when you're trying to sleep and people are walking past in flip flops, inches from your head. Lots of pitches were like this. Softplay table area wasn't cleaned during our stay...same rubbish and bits of cheese and chips on the tables throughout.

Liked We had a fantastic family weekend stay. Good size pitches together, bathroom facilities good and clean. Park catered for our grandson very well - he loved the swimming pool. Park grounds well kept, also clean, with some lovely plants and flowers. Reception staff on arrival very friendly and helpful. Location of campsite is fantastic for Newquay and Perranporth.

Disliked Leading up to our stay there was quite a bit of confusion as to what ‘add ins’ had been paid for. We booked 3 pitches through Pitch Up, 2 dogs included with booking. However when I confirmed all out details with the park, they did not have record of the dogs and charged us (only for 1 as a goodwill gesture). Additionally, if you are going as a group - there is a £15 fee for each pitch to be next to another. Quite steep charge, which we believed we had paid but again, just before we arrived - had to pay and extra £15. I would definitely recommend double/triple checking this.
Also - the park say automated balances are not taken, but they are. Not a problem but this came up in the conversation regarding the “missing” £15 for one of the pitches.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass campsite (premium)

Liked Fantastic site, so much to do for the kids and for us adults. The site is absolutely spotless and the workers are always cleaning, busy, friendly and very welcoming. Everything was so close by and very well planned out as far as the site goes.

Disliked There were a certain group of questionable individuals which unfortunately did upset us on 3 occasions. We did then try to avoid certain areas due to this. However, this is not the sites fault at all.

Local attractions

Cornwall’s coastline and beaches are pretty much legendary, but Newquay (10 minutes) is world-famed for its surf and nightlife too. It’s a party town from daybreak until well after dark and the surf's so good they hold international competitions here – check out Fistral Beach and Watergate Bay. Perranporth (10 minutes) is the place to head for a more relaxed beach day, though it’s very popular so best to get your towel down early. The beach here is a fab spot for dog walking, rolling up the trousers for a paddle or lazing around and copping a look at the views. The Eden Project (35 minutes) has the UK’s most realistic rainforest, full of rare plant species and exotic butterflies, as well as a pretty nifty Mediterranean biome. Daredevils can also have a go on England’s longest zipwires here.
