Camping in der Nähe vom Kettlewell Scarecrow Festival
Whoever conceived this event probably watched 'The Birds' one too many times, because at this quirky festival, it's scarecrows, scarecrows everywhere (well over a hundred at the last count!).
The good folk of the gorgeous village of Kettlewell really push the boat out for this annual charity event, which has grown to attract thousands of visitors over several days. Follow the 'Scarecrow Trail' and solve the clues left by the villagers to find scarecrows hidden in gardens, on rooftops or in more unusual nooks and crannies.
You may stumble upon the Simpson family watching TV from their sofa, a full scarecrow bridal party plus vicar and choir in the village church, or a gaggle of straw girls dancing round a maypole. There's plenty to delight the kids, plus a good dose of black humour to entertain the adults (previous years have featured a Gordon Brown scarecrow in the stocks and a CSI crime scene, for example!)
Yorkshire being famed for its tea, you'll also find plenty of stops en route to serve you a reviving cuppa, and of course some delicious home baking too.
