Bag yourself a blissful break at Portavadie Loch Fyne, a spa and leisure resort on the shores of a lake in a part of the Scottish Highlands known as the ‘Secret Coast’. It’s an all-season spot with glorious views, a heated infinity pool looking out over the water, and first-rate marina facilities. The site also has restaurants, bars, shops… and an intriguing backstory. It sits on a bit of land in Argyll that was originally earmarked to become an oil rig construction facility but was never used. Nowadays, it’s a swish resort designed to appeal to all sorts of travellers, from families and couples to hikers and sailors. Spend days dipping in and out of the indoor and outdoor pools, breaking up the aquatic activities by exercising in the fitness centre, or cycling on local forest trails using one of the hired bikes. Jaunts in the car could include drives around the lush lake in Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park (40 minutes). Alternatively, stick to the site and fish on the loch or birdwatch – guests have been known to glimpse buzzards, otters and golden eagles sparking through the skies. Keen-eyed visitors have spotted basking sharks out in the water too. For beach days, the sandy sweep of Ostel Bay is a 15-minute drive.

Positiv Absolutely loved this campsite. The pool is a must its amazing. indoor there is a good sized pool sauna and hot tub and outside a heated infinity pool and 2 jacuzzi s its the best . The showers and toilets are the best I have ever seen. Clothes washing and drying £5. Some great walks near by

Positiv The location is brilliant. We were in our campervan. Pitch was great, food in the resteraunt was good & the staff were very helpful, courteous &polite.

Negativ The toilet cassette emptying facilities leave a bit to be desired

Positiv Not excessively large site, so fairly quiet. Excellent views from the motorhome pitch. Clean modern restaurant, with good food at a reasonable price. toilet and shower facilties modern and clean.

Negativ Motorhome drive-over grey water disposal point is on a steep slope, difficult to drain the tank without parking sideways-on and partly blocking the road

Simply the best location and facilities for a coastal campsite.

Positiv The best view over Loch Fyne. Access to 5* facilities ie the Marina restaurant and spa. Showers and toilets are shared with the marina so warm, clean and top notch.

Negativ Access roads with a lot of potholes and midges! It is remote Scotland

Positiv Friendly staff, incredible scenery, delicious food (recommend the crispy haggis bites!) and drinks, the showers with sea kelp soap and moisturiser, hairdryers and straighteners and THE SPA!

Negativ Toilets by the shepherd huts really needed cleaning.

Views were amazing. Close to port. Spa facilities.…

Positiv Views were amazing. Close to port. Spa facilities.

Negativ It’s a very posh complex on the surface but not the highest of quality or cleanliness.
Don’t be fooled by the ‘shop on site’ for camping, it has no useful supplies or food for cooking. But I suppose they would prefer you went to the restaurant. The food was nice but expensive for what it is.
Bike hire was expensive considering the majority of their bikes are broken and they could not cater for everyone.
The site is suited more to the hotel guests, the camping is more of an afterthought and we felt the service received by staff changed when they knew you were staying at the campsite and not in the hotel premises. Seemed a bit snobby

Excellent facilities set within the most stunning scenery.

There’s plenty on site to keep you occupied, but for days out and about head to historical structures such as the ruined Mac Ewen Castle fort (20 minutes) or the medieval Royal Castle of Tarbet (40 minutes) stronghold, then round off adventures the Scottish way with a dram or two at the Whisky West Coast distillery (40 minutes). Those eager to explore a touch further afield could bound over to the Isle of Bute (an hour and 15 minutes) for ambles around the Art Deco and Victorian architecture of palm-lined Rothesay, a town that's rather incongruously known for having some of the best public toilets in the nation. Walks are fab on Bute too – head north for strolls through a heather-strewn landscape. Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park (40 minutes) is just as scenic a destination. Wander among handsome hills and glens or find a spot to relax by one of the many lakes before pausing in Dunoon (50 minutes), one of the Firth of Clyde’s main resort towns, to take in the Victorian pier and rummage in the craft shops and galleries.
