Portavadie Loch Fyne: Park up at Portavadie

General

  • Swish spa and leisure resort on the eastern shores of Loch Fyne
  • A 40-minute drive from Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park
  • Cycle hire, fitness centre, indoor and outdoor pools, play area

Bag yourself a blissful break at Portavadie Loch Fyne, a spa and leisure resort on the shores of a lake in a part of the Scottish Highlands known as the ‘Secret Coast’. It’s an all-season spot with glorious views, a heated infinity pool looking out over the water, and first-rate marina facilities.

The site also has restaurants, bars, shops… and an intriguing backstory. It sits on a bit of land in Argyll that was originally earmarked to become an oil rig construction facility but was never used. Nowadays, it’s a swish resort designed to appeal to all sorts of travellers, from families and couples to hikers and sailors.

Spend days dipping in and out of the indoor and outdoor pools, breaking up the aquatic activities by exercising in the fitness centre, or cycling on local forest trails using one of the hired bikes. Jaunts in the car could include drives around the lush lake in Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park (40 minutes).

Alternatively, stick to the site and fish on the loch or birdwatch – guests have been known to glimpse buzzards, otters and golden eagles sparking through the skies. Keen-eyed visitors have spotted basking sharks out in the water too.

For beach days, the sandy sweep of Ostel Bay is a 15-minute drive.

Please note

Guests under the age of 2 are not allowed on site.

All: access to the swimming pool is not included in the rate and is charged £8.00 ($14.54) per adult and £4.00 ($7.27) per child per session.

At least one of the party members must be aged 21 or over.

Facilities/activities including swimming pools, sauna and outdoor infinity and spa pools are subject to extra charges payable on arrival.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

No cars/motorcycles at the site. All cars must be parked in the designated area.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

Minimum spacing of 2 metres between pitches.

Please note that the electric connections for the tent pitches are traditional 3-pin household extensions.

Exceptional and unusual site with great facilities, if a bit remote.20/09/2021

  • Liked:

Good site on top of a hill with fantastic views if you got a pitch on the right side. Also there is space for about a dozed vehicles only which we like. There is a 200 metre walk to the wash block but it is on roadway and it is one of the best wash blocks we have come across. Even better showers are available a bit further away in the main clubhouse. We paid to take advantage of the facilities a gym with new equipment, and a bath-warm outside pool with great view across Loch Fyne to the Mull of Kintyre. We also had a fantastic meal at the restaurant. There is a good shop on site that has some basic foodstuffs among all the sailing gear, at reasonable prices. All the staff we met were charming and helpful.

    Disliked:

Portavadie Marina is a bit out on a limb and there is not a lot of interest to do in the local area. Fine if you are happy to stay put and enjoy the facilities.

Lovely location and facilities. Fabulous views. The pitches are fully serviced and a good size. We went to the restaurant, the food and drinks were of a good standard, and prices reasonable. The spa, swimming pool and outdoor infinity pool are great for a chill out. Good cycle routes, and ferry to Tarbet. Recommend.

    Disliked:

Very little to be honest. On our last nights stay we had noisy neighbours, who had a small camper van and tent next to us, and we’re loud and playing music till 1am!!!

Amazing place. The views are spectacular and it's so peaceful.

Very clean and handy to all services. Each pitch has water & electricity and the chemical disposal area is 30 m away.

The showers and toilets are excellent and spotless

The spa is amazing and we spent an hour relaxing in the infinity pool, jacuzzi and sauna for £8.

    I would 100% reccomend a visit here.

Local attractions

There’s plenty on site to keep you occupied, but for days out and about head to historical structures such as the ruined Mac Ewen Castle fort (20 minutes) or the medieval Royal Castle of Tarbet (40 minutes) stronghold, then round off adventures the Scottish way with a dram or two at the Whisky West Coast distillery (40 minutes).

Those eager to explore a touch further afield could bound over to the Isle of Bute (an hour and 15 minutes) for ambles around the Art Deco and Victorian architecture of palm-lined Rothesay, a town that's rather incongruously known for having some of the best public toilets in the nation. Walks are fab on Bute too – head north for strolls through a heather-strewn landscape.

Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park (40 minutes) is just as scenic a destination. Wander among handsome hills and glens or find a spot to relax by one of the many lakes before pausing in Dunoon (50 minutes), one of the Firth of Clyde’s main resort towns, to take in the Victorian pier and rummage in the craft shops and galleries.
