Surrounded by craggy views and hikes from the doorstep, Shepherd’s Crag Glamping is a peaceful sort of place – and it's kept that way by only having a handful of guests at any one time to stay at this lovely site surrounded by the gorgeous Cumbrian countryside. Feel free to be as active or as lazy as you like here – if you choose the latter there are views of the Yorkshire Dales and Ingleborough to accompany any mid-afternoon chats or naps, plus evenings by the barbecue or firepit. What might a day go like here? Once you’ve rolled out of the hay and rustled up something to eat using the shared gas cooking (with washing-up facilities and ice pack freezing also available), you might want to head to the rear of the site. From there, it’s a short walk to the Hutton Roof Crags, Newbiggin Crags and Farleton Knott, which together have far-reaching views of the Lake District and the sea (this area is a hot walking, hiking, climbing and mountain biking spot, by the way). Shepherd’s Crag Glamping is on a family farm, and guests have access to simple facilities like charging points, two composting loos and hot showers (as it’s such a small site, there should never be too long to queue). Plus, all the pitches are carefully positioned to give you your own space and privacy while still taking advantage of the great views. When you’re ready to get into the role of intrepid explorer, the Lake District National Park is 20 minutes’ drive away, as is the Arnside & Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Yorkshire Dales are 25 minutes’ drive away too.

Ruhiger, kleiner Campingplatz mit toller Aussicht und Zugang zu Wanderwegen. Joe, der Gastgeber, wird gelobt, ebenso die sauberen Einrichtungen (Duschen, Küche). Komposttoiletten können warm/riechend sein. Ideal für Urlaub auf dem Land, zwischen Lakes & Dales. Zufahrt teils eng/holprig.

Pod-Hütte Shepherd's

Positiv What an amazing camp site in the most beautiful location. Joe was so welcoming and super friendly and showed us around the site, which is a credit to him. The facilities were great with powerful showers and it had everything that we needed. We enjoyed just sitting and looking at the wonderful view and enjoyed the Newbiggin walk that was just out of the campsite gate. We were in awe at how scenic the walk was. We would definitely go back again it’s one of the best sites we have camped at. We hired the shepherd’s pod and the bed was extremely comfortable, best nights sleep xx

Positiv I like to try and have at least two visits a year spring and autumn. Although the site is just a stone's throw from the motorway it seems secluded and very rural. The site suits me and my V W van very well, a completely different world to the over populated area I now live in. So handy for both the Yorkshire Fells and the Lakes . I haven't put any stars down for wifi because the phone is something I like to get away from when I'm camping.

Positiv Loved the large pitches on a small campsite with spectacular views. The undercover cooking area with a fridge was a bonus as it rained a lot during the trip. Beautiful views of the hillsides and sheep and horses for neighbours, and you can purchase fresh milk, eggs and cheese.

Remote location, ideal for peace and quiet and retreat from every day hectic life.

Positiv We have just returned from Shepards Crag Glamping and I have to say what an outstanding site!

The views are incredible, the site was immaculate and Joe who runs the site was super accommodating and welcoming. He even let the children help him feed the lambs, which they all loved (have to say including the adults)

We came a group and had the whole site which was perfect as we had the combination of Glamping pods / safari tent for the less experienced campers and then the further 2 pitches.

We will certainly be making this an annual trip to this site and look forward to returning.

Ramblers’ biggest dilemma might be deciding upon which place to head to first. Straight to hikes in the Yorkshire Dales National Park (25 minutes’ drive), where some goals might be to hike the Three Peaks or track down waterfalls like Ingleton Falls, Janet’s Foss and Aysgarth Falls? While you’re holidaying here, it might seem like there’s no end to the characterful villages and historic towns. Take Kirkby Lonsdale (15 minutes), for instance, with its independent shops and eateries, 14th-century bridge and Ruskins View over the Lune Valley. There are pretty views all over the place in the Arnside & Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (20 minutes) too. The two coastal villages are packed with hiking trailheads, ice cream shops and fish and chips shops. Over in the Lake District National Park (20 minutes) there are hikes such as The Langdale Pikes (55 minutes) and pretty towns like Bowness-on-Windermere (half an hour) and Grasmere (50 minutes). Those with a sweet tooth might appreciate Grasmere’s tasty gingerbread, while Wordsworth readers can visit a museum on his life.
