I stayed overnight at Stow-on-the-Wold Rugby Club in my big red VW bus, and honestly, it was a really pleasant surprise for the price they charge.

What’s great here is that you don’t have to mess about with reception staff – everything is handled through Pitchup. In the lobby you’ll find the site rules and local information, and if you do need anything, staff are just a phone call or text away. This keeps costs down, meaning they can reinvest into the place and make it much better than you’d expect, while also being a brilliant addition to the rugby club.

The site offers fantastic views, and the facilities are much better than I expected. Toilets and showers were available – and very clean. There are even washing-up facilities, which was a lovely surprise, as most sites in this price range don’t usually offer anything beyond basic toilets (if that!).

There’s a board with names for booked pitches – if you book on the same day, your name might not appear, but it’s not an issue. I came expecting more of a wild camping experience but found it to be far nicer and more organised than expected.

Yes, the field is on a slope, but it’s easy enough to get your camper level with minimal blocking. In my case, I didn’t even need wedges – just parked at the right angle and it was fine.

The rugby club house was open when a game was on, serving drinks at very reasonable prices compared to the pubs up the road. You can also see that the staff have worked hard to bring the site up to a much higher standard than it could have been, and it really shows.

Best of all, there’s a little lobby with a 24/7 contactless coffee machine and WiFi in the lobby – such a nice touch and something you don’t often find on sites like this.

All in all, a brilliant little spot with way more than you’d expect for the price. I’d happily stay again.

as its so low on the floor you have to bend over but it's not a massive issue as it's cleen

Negativ No greeting at all, no signs to tell you where washing up facilities or taps etc where had to search
Dirty toilets and showers, reported this but same dirt stayed the 4 nights we were there. Shower mop and bucket held same dirty water all week never changed we did report this but only quick clean no real change
Pitches are really sloped really difficult for tents. Felt like the caravan pitches were level and the right place but tents were not cared for.

We booked an electric grass pitches unfortunately on arrival there was only one left and it was on such a slope even with the ramps we brought with us it just wouldn’t work.

We ended up just parking down on the non electric field even though we paid for electric pitch. As it was late and with a 15 week old and 8 year old we just wanted to settle for the night.

Only stayed the one night so was up and out first thing.

Toilet / shower was ok.

No reception for arrival but welcome email advises contact number, unfortunately due to personal reasons wasn’t available on site .

Positiv The view of hills, quiet!

Negativ No name on the board on arrival for pitch number, phoned and was told if there are any hardstandings just find one and park up. The toilets were not cleaned regularly, ladies showers were blocked for 3 days until another customer phoned the site manager. We could have just pitched up there and no one would have known.
Advertised as bus stop nearby, we never found one!
OK if you have a car but we had to drive out in the motor home each day.

Negativ No one to meet you.
There were no pitches, it's just a free for all.
Masses of tents, half naked kids, it felt grotty, far too busy and full of the great unwashed. Small yappy dogs running around.
Pitch slopped.
I left after 4 hours, just couldn't stay there.
Possibly the lowest class place I have stayed.

We were extremely busy over the bank holiday weekend especially with the Big Feastival happening locally & I would imagine some of our visitors were festival goers. Unfortunately we are not allowed to discriminate when taking bookings & we don't have the opportunity to vet our guests. We do ask for good behaviour & reasonable respect for other site users, & you will see from our many good reviews that normally the site is peaceful & our guests have respect for other users.
We don't have a full time staff on site as it's not viable for us to do so, however there is a contact number for our staff displayed in several locations & on your booking acknowledgment, so help was available.
