Litton Lakes is a family-run Dorset lakeside site with spacious pitches on a working farm in the pretty village of Litton Cheney. The area is something of a walkers’ paradise, with direct access to a network of footpaths and bridleways, and a dog-walking field just next to the site for any four-legged pals that haven’t had enough of a stretch. If you’d rather set out on two wheels you may like to note that National Cycle Route 2 passes the entrance to the site (and it’s suitable for cyclists of all ages and abilities). Back at base after any such outings, guests can get some more activity in by launching their paddleboards or kayaks on the lake, taking a dip in the fresh water or simply settling down to admire the far-reaching countryside views (firepits can be hired and logs are available to buy if you need a bit of warmth to help you dry off after a dip). And if what you really need is some sustenance? The site’s own Purple Turtle Café (open every day but Tuesday and Wednesday for most of the year, and every day during the summer holidays) should be your first port of call, for splendid cakes accompanied by cups of tea and freshly brewed coffee by the lake. You’re also welcome to light barbecues for bigger meals, or you might like to take a stroll down to the local pub, five minutes’ walk away. This is a peaceful and family-friendly site that’s particularly attractive for those with an interest in photography as there’s some gorgeous scenery to snap nearby. It’s also in an area of very low light pollution, so stargazing should be on the schedule too if possible.

Aquest càmping gaudeix d'una bonica ubicació rural amb un llac popular per nedar i fer paddle surf. Els visitants lloen el personal amable, les instal·lacions netes i les parcel·les espaioses. Em va agradar We had a perfect spot for our van. The campsite has a great toilet and shower block, which has been built in keeping with its location.
The campsite is family friendly but quiet too. The lake is incredible. There are access spots all round the lake, with shade too.
It’s the most perfect place to come to for a total relaxation.

Em va agradar The lake access was fab, the pitches were big.

No em va agradar The toilets weren’t particularly clean, the showers unusable just a spray of water and cold. Washing up area no hot water. Grumpy and very slow service in the cafe.

Tenda piramidal (bàsica)

Em va agradar We booked a bell tent this weekend for our family. The site was clean and the lake and the play area was idyllic. The staff were helpful and friendly. My only dislike was that we had to leave and didn’t have enough time to go into the beautiful cafe on site. Thank you for a beautiful stay.

Em va agradar A beautiful site in a great position with large pitches toilets and showers very clean walking distance to a good pub. The stars at night were unbelievable. The lake is so much fun obviously busy at the weekend but it was a very hot day perfect for swimming and paddle boarding

Em va agradar Great place and can't believe we've not heard of it before. Will be booking for next year. Make sure you have a shower in daytime because it runs out once the sun's gone, wasn't a issue because it was nice weather.

Take a 10-minute walk along to the village’s very own vineyard, Bride Valley Vineyard, for tours, tastings and a bottle or two to sip while the sun goes down. (If you’re more of a beer drinker, you’ll need to take the 15-minute drive to Palmers Brewery, which also runs excellent tours.) Time for the beach? Take your pick from the scenic offerings of West Bay and Burton Bradstock (both 15 minutes’ drive) and the 18-mile shingle stretch at Chesil Beach (half an hour), or head off to Weymouth (half an hour) to see the Sandworld sand sculptures and ogle the underwater beasts at the Sea Life Centre. Away from the coast, top days out might take you to Abbotsbury Swannery and gardens (20 minutes) or to explore the Teddy Bear Museum, Dinosaur Museum and Maiden Castle Iron Age fort in Dorchester (half an hour).
