There’s an interesting back story to Anzio Heights – this family-friendly Staffordshire site was once an army barracks and Polish resettlement camp, and that means this place now holds heritage status. You’ll see some of the old buildings as you wander around here, but thankfully the vibe is a much friendlier and more welcoming one than you’d have found during the army era. It’s now home to things like a play area and a picnic area, and it’s got nice modern amenities including bathrooms and charging facilities. You’ll also be able to meet the site’s pet donkeys while you’re here. Just outside the quiet village of Blackshaw Moor, this site is well placed for touring the nearby Peak District National Park – perhaps with walks around The Roaches or bike rides along the Manifold Way. Watersports and fishing are also close by at Rudyard Lake, and you can mix up the outdoor activities with trips to places like Peak Wildlife Park or Alton Towers. The pretty spa town of Buxton is 15 minutes’ drive away but your closest town is Leek, five minutes’ drive away and a good source of shops and places to eat. Prefer to get out on foot? A farm shop and pub are within walking distance.

Em va agradar My kid absolutely loved the play area, I really loved the trees and listening to the birdsong, and my husband really rated the toilets! Love how chilled out it was, we will definitely be coming back :)

No em va agradar The campsite has quiet hours after 9pm but the pub down the road was pretty loud til at least past 11. Not the campsite owner’s fault at all and it will depend on your van’s level of soundproofing as to whether it bothers you or not, it didn’t wake my kid up so I didn’t mind.

Em va agradar Booked on the day, arrived met with a lady who told us where we could park, very easy. Pleasant night, facilities perfect what we needed, had a walk round with our dogs, spent time petting the beautiful donkeys, would come back when passing area again, thankyou hope to see what you do in the future

Em va agradar Wow. What a great spot. It’s got history, great views, a lovely play area, great facilities and run by an awesome couple. We felt very at home and will be returning.

No em va agradar Nothing! It might be worth noting that the site is a work in progress, so somethings are evolving, but it all added to the interest of this old army base.
