The long-gone folk who decided to call this patch Sweet Hill Farm were right on the money – with spectacular 180-degree seaside vistas, views over three lighthouses and next to no light pollution, this fine little farm site is a very appealing place to stay indeed. This family-friendly spot is on the tip of the Isle of Portland, a scenic outcrop off Dorset’s Jurassic Coast. Rollick around the island on foot, by bike or on horseback – the team who run Sweet Hill Farm also own an ace equestrian outfit next door, so get set for saddle-based trekking under their expert guidance. The pitches here have plenty of space between them and are set over various fab fields. The key phrase here is 'nearly wild', the 'nearly' part being a nod to the composting loos and cold water taps that make family hols here that little bit easier. Wild, though, it certainly is – birds of prey can often be spotted soaring overhead during the day, and it gets decidedly darker over here at night than it does on most of the mainland. Please note that there's no car parking by the pitches during busy periods and peak season. Cars will be parked in the field directly behind the camping areas and customers will have the use of a giant wheelbarrow to help move their gear from car to pitch. Hikers who want to tackle Portland’s stretch of the South West Coast Path in one fell swoop will come across the trail's distinctive yellow arrows about half a mile away. All that walking (or horse riding, fishing or swimming…) can be thirsty work, so you may be chuffed to find a pub in the local village, Southwell (10 minutes' walk).

喜欢 Beautiful views, toilets were clean and had toilet roll. The sausage breakfast rolls on site are delicious!

不喜欢 Very windy and wet trip, feels quite exposed- but trip before was amazing, so think its more our poor checking of the weather forecast!

不喜欢 I was expecting compost toilets so was happy when I saw portaloo’s until I went inside. Absolutely disgusting, compost toilets would have been so much better. I don’t know if they clean them or didn’t top them up with water but everyone had xxxx up the bowls. So disgusted we ended up leaving early. Luckily for us we are only in Weymouth but for some people who were there for a holiday… you poor things!
I did try and call the office to tell them how revolting they were but it went a “full up voice mail” certainly won’t be recommending or returning.

喜欢 Another great stay at Sweet Hill Farm, i'm starting to lose count, but i'm sure it's at least five visits now. The site never disappoints, they always put me in my favourite field (sweet hill pasture) and being a bit of a creature of habit, i always seem to pitch in the same spot. The site seems to attract people of a similar ilk, who love the peace and tranquility and subsequently there is never any bother from noisy campers. Even the odd groups who bring along a guitar for a sing song, are very respectful of other campers and it is nice to be serenaded before dozing off, lol. I enjoy my time camping here when i'm down fishing the local marks. Hopefully i'll be back again before the weather turns.

喜欢 Prachtige plek met zonsopkomst aan de ene kant en zonsondergang aan de andere kant.
Onze kinderen hebben heerlijk gespeeld op de verschillende plekken aan de zee op loopafstand.
Het paardrijden was een hoogtepunt.
Het personeel wat super vriendelijk en behulpzaam. (We zijn 2 van plek veranderd omdat ik graag zeezicht wilde)

喜欢 Very clean campsite for the sheer size of it! Lovely vibes with live music and a cafe.

不喜欢 The pitches were very difficult to figure out where each tent/van should be. Everyone felt like they were on top of each other. Maybe some marked pitches might be a good idea

OK folks, it's time to come clean – there's a road bridge between the Isle of Portland and the mainland, meaning that any boat trips you make while here will be purely optional. That said, you can't go far wrong with a sailing jaunt around Weymouth Bay – head to Portland harbour (10 minutes' drive) to set sail on an organised yacht cruise, or, if you’ve got some experience, to charter a vessel of your own. While hanging around the northern part of the island, swing by historic sites like Portland Castle and Castletown D-Day Centre (both 10 minutes), or make your way to Chesil Beach (10 minutes), a rather rugged stretch of shingle that runs for miles alongside the gorgeous Fleet lagoon. Beaches more suitable for bathing include Church Ope Cove (five minutes' drive or half an hour on foot), a secluded cove overlooked by the ruins of Rufus Castle. Weymouth (25 minutes' drive) has bigger and sandier beaches that are well-suited to those bucket and spade days.
