The Paddock Campsite

Понравилось What can I say about our 2 night group stay at the paddock campsite, well the owner has a nice dog and the location is close to the beach is what I would say are the only positive aspects of this place….

On arrival we got hit by the stench of sewage and the phone line was down so we couldn’t contact the lady in charge. Took us a while to get through and had to email to contact her ( to be fair she did apologise for this).

The ground was very uneven and was hard to set up in some places so I’d pick where you choose to set up wisely to make sure your not sleeping in a ditch!

I’m addition it says online fire pits provided so we didn’t pack our portable one, but on arrival we then got told its £35 for 2 nights for the tin can fire pit. Lovely surprise…. Not.

Our group also had a fun guessing game of whether there was a local airport near by due to the extreme amount of noise in the campsite. Turns out you are right by a busy main road with absolute speeders going by day and night. I prefer personally a calm relaxing time camping in a serene area but I can see now by camping here 2 nights in someone’s back garden by a main road how I obviously take this for granted.

The MAIN big big reason I would say not to go here (as you have probably seen from other reviews) are the FLIES. I don’t mean a pesky one or two knocking about, I mean thousands of flies! It’s a massive infestation they have going on and it’s just down right disgusting. Every other person that we saw or spoke to, on our 2 night stay was complaining about them. We saw the people in pods complaining and having to ask for raid fly spray for their “luxury pods”, the campers all of us were being over run by them even with everything we bought contained and locked up, our tent was still full of them! I saw some people leave early, it was that bad and even we thought of doing the same. The toilets had a hundred flies in them, dead flies on the floor from the mass killings with Raid I saw the cleaner use in the morning and just general uncleanliness really.

Don’t get me wrong it’s a cheap place and if you don’t might a couple hundred thousand friendly flies knocking about then this is the place for you. If you are normal however I would highly reconsider booking this place as camping in someone’s unclean, fly infested back garden was not worth the money….

Понравилось Great location, next to farm shop, quiet camp, hottub was great. Cabin great. Really friendly. Lots of thought has been put into the cabin equipment, fly screens, fans, extra wood

Понравилось Lovely little site close to Filey,Scarborough and a good jump off point for almost other attractions, Rebecca the owner was lovely nothing was to much trouble, defo stop there again

Понравилось It’s a lovely small campsite which we liked. It wasn’t overcrowded with tents and isn’t a money making obsessed campsite. The owner (rebecca) made sure we were all okay and was very helpful with directing us where to go and telling us some local walks and things to see.

Не понравилось There were flies but it’s a farm so was expected

Понравилось It was in a brilliant spot and a nice walk to Caynon beach and not far from Scarborough and Filey .Had a spa 24 hour shop/ petrol station at the top of the road and a pub . showers and toilets were clean .

Не понравилось There was quite a few flys and they kept coming in the tent But guess with it being near fields could be why .

As regards flies we are in a very rural location & can get flies in & around the area..

Понравилось Close to different places and walking distance to a beach.

Не понравилось Unleveled grass pitch, toilets disgrace dirty and LOTS of flies and dead flies all over the floor, as well as water all over floor.
Very difficult to get hold of the owner on arrival.
I would not come again and I certainly wouldn't recommend going.

От менеджера: I refer to your review & the same review that you have put on multiple platforms,concerning my camping Site!!!I will address each of your points .
Firstly you arrived on site at 8pm on Friday 10/7.Final checkin time is at 6pm unless otherwise arranged ahead of you arrival date.I think , from looking at the cameras on Site you waited approximately 7 mins for me to direct you to your Pitch .I'm aware some sites in my immediate area would have refused entry for this late arrival.
As regards flies this whole area has experience a severe heatwave. We've seen temperatures of 38 deg .Due to farmers working on neighbouring fields & the heatwave this did lead to a short term spike in flies from 8- 11July .
Whilst this is out of my control, we do try to mitigate this by fly spray & extra cleans of the showerblock. Due to the heat customers were having more showers than usual in our wetrooms so the floor was sometimes wet.However, do to the high temperatures the floor quickly dried.We do also supply a sweeping brush & dust pan for guests to use during their stay with us.Most of our guests are happy with the standards we provide & comment on the lovely location of our Site.Im sorry we did not meet your expectations on this occasion. Понравилось Great location for exploring this beautiful coastline. Easy ground for pitching my tent, not too crowded at all and a nice friendly vibe. Lovely, helpful owner who was a joy to meet and chat to. Great to be able to walk to the beach and cliffs from the site. Facilities are good (I was expecting really basic from reading some of these reviews but the individual toilet cubicles with wet room style shower were great, I thought.) My dog and I had a lovely stay - I was on a ‘puffin-mission’, which was a great success - and saw gannets, dolphins and seals too ❤️❤️. Didn’t try the local pub or farm shop, but the beach nearby was lovely - such expansive sands.

As a woman travelling on her own for the first time in many years - now my kids have grown up - it was a very welcoming safe and friendly environment. Thank you.

Не понравилось Dislike is too strong a word but these are a couple of observations (from someone that is sensitive to noise)

The site is fairly near a busy road - you can’t see it at all, but there is a soft background hum of traffic. The flip side to this, of course, is that it’s so easy to access - I had a fabulous day, driving off early (no cars parked on the field so hope I managed to do this without disturbing anyone) and being at the cliffs for 6am to go and find the puffins.

The site is also right next to the house and driveway - which is ideal in so many ways as the owner is right on site (especially helpful as I inadvertently pitched up early - and she was right there and hugely helpful and accommodating). Long term I think the site could benefit from having trees or hedges planted along the fence boundary between the site and house, which would enhance that ‘away-from-it-all’ feeling.
