Royal Umpire Caravan Park

Gostou We stayed for three nights in Gemini Pod 193 with our four children and were very pleased with the value for money. We’re a budget-conscious family who enjoy simple accommodation and plenty of adventure, and this was a great choice for us.

Communication before arrival was excellent, with helpful emails and phone calls. The pod had been warmed up ready for us, which was a lovely welcome in wet and windy October weather. The staff were friendly and visible throughout our stay, including over the weekend. The manager was polite, knowledgeable and caring, and it was a pleasure speaking with him.

The pod was spacious, with plenty of floor space for the children to play and generous storage underneath the beds. The heating worked quickly and the pod retained its warmth very well, even during strong winds and heavy rain. Everyone slept comfortably, the blinds made the room properly dark, and the children absolutely loved the star lights in the ceiling.

The park was quiet, clean and well organised. Other guests were friendly, and the children we encountered were polite and respectful. We saw staff cleaning the facilities and clearing debris after the windy weather. The main grounds also appeared to drain well, with puddles disappearing after the rain stopped.

Our pod did not have its own toilet or shower, but the separate communal facilities were clean, and the well-lit paths made nighttime visits manageable. The washing-up area was particularly good, with seven sinks, hot water, washing-up liquid dispensers and draining racks. There were also laundry facilities available.

The playground and spacious grassy grounds gave the children plenty to enjoy. We brought our own scooters and outdoor games and spent three nights happily occupied without needing expensive outings. We only went off-site for dinner at the pub across the road, which was about a two-minute walk away and also had a children’s play area.

The information pack was thorough and useful, and the advertised return-booking discounts were another positive. Overall, this was a warm, comfortable and affordable family break. We are looking forward to returning soon.

Gostou Loved the accommodation gave for couple and two dogs. Had everything we needed. The site was great too.

Não gostou The dog area wasn’t very good. Lots of dog poop left there. Very sad to see. That’s down to the dog owners.

Não gostou All the hives didn’t have the same facilities I had a toddler with me, the other parties I was with had speakers within their lodges so could entertain with music, we had no wifi at all so unable to entertain older kids, we had no hob which isn’t advertised but the other 2 parties we were with did. The slats within the seating area outside the hive were all lose which is very dangerous for a small child I had to wedge the bench next to them so she didn’t fall through.
Park facilities are run down are not fit for purpose for small children. Dog poo all over the dog exercise area so the families with dogs wouldn’t go near it as you had to walk through poo to walk round.
For £100 a night I would expect more to be honest.

Gostou We really liked the location of the site. Handy for all our planned day trips. We had parking next to our pod which was handy. The play ground was lovely. Well equipped kitchen area. The beds were small as expected from the pictures but we took an airbed for one of the kids which worked well. Great storage solutions

Não gostou The shower did not drain very well and we did not have a mop.

Gostou Has lots of potential. Nice pods, spaces good, clean facilities.

Had access to riverside holiday park facilities. This was fantastic but not communicated to us. The only reason I knew was because of a sign on the back of the toilet doors.

Não gostou No warden on site to check us in if arrive on a Wednesday and no communication of this prior to arrival. Also meaning no one to deal with our noise complaints and dogs off lead issues. Phone contact was not answered. Allow big groups with no monitoring of them. Also people had fires which were not allowed especially given national alert which could have been a huge issue.

Items they told us would be in the pod, were not there. No pots or pans to cook with.

Gostou The pod itself was lovely and clean, with all crockery and utensils needed provided. Kettle, toaster, microwave and fridge with small freezer. Tv easy to use and the staff were all always happy to help if needed. The grounds themselves are very well kept along with the shower and toilet cubicles. The added effect of the twinkling lights inside the pod were a lovely added touch (although slightly noisy). As a family with younger and older children it’s been a pleasure for all of us.

Gostou The pods were a very good size and having a kettle, toaster, fridge and microwave is great.

Não gostou Our pod had not been cleaned, there was dog food all over the floor and food everywhere. I told reception and they moved us which was good but the new pod was also dirty. I didn’t complain again I just cleaned the pod which I shouldn’t have to do! This site is really missing a trick, it clearly just isn’t run very well. They only reply to good reviews and ignore bad ones.
The toilets and showers really need updating, this place could be great! We did not see any staff at all after check in for 3 days!
