There are many reasons why one might fancy settling down by a river – perhaps for the fishing, the views, the wildlife… maybe even the chance to get in the water. Happily, all of the above are on the cards at Avon Wild Camping, a peaceful Warwickshire site on the banks of the River Avon 15 minutes' drive from Leamington Spa. There’s a mighty pretty stretch of the river running alongside one side of this site, making it a prime spot for kids to paddle and catch minnows in the shallows (under supervision, of course) or for grownups to pick up permits (available on site for an extra charge) to try their luck with the chub, pike, grayling, roach and brown trout that swim in the waters. It’s a popular part of the world with wildlife too, so settling down by the river with binoculars and/or a drink also comes highly recommended. All is very laidback around here: it’s a pick-your-own pitch place, with heaps of space to choose from around the 12 acres of meadow. Being a back-to-basics site, there are no electric hookups, but there is access to limited (but clean) toilet facilities, showers and running water. As this is an eco site, the toilets run on rainwater, guests are strongly encouraged to recycle and, without wifi, the kids are free to focus on playing by the river. Alfresco meals can be cooked up at the campfire area; there are firepits and kiln-dried timber available if you need them. Pick up supplies for such things at the farm shop a mile away; it’s also got a café for coffee, cakes, pizzas and other meals if you’d rather eat out. There are several good country pubs nearby too, or you could scoot into Royal Leamington Spa (10 minutes’ drive) for more places to eat and drink.

Polubione We had a fantastic stay at Avon Wild Camping and will definitely be back. If you’re looking for a peaceful escape surrounded by nature, this is the perfect place. The riverside setting is beautiful, there’s plenty of space to pitch up, and the relaxed atmosphere makes it easy to unwind.

The facilities were clean and well looked after, and the owners were friendly, welcoming, and happy to help. We loved being able to have a campfire in the evening while enjoying the amazing sunsets and listening to the sounds of nature.

It’s the ideal balance between proper wild camping and having the essentials you need for a comfortable stay. Excellent value for money and a great place for couples, families, or anyone wanting to switch off for a few days. Highly recommended!

The good news is, the new toilets are just being installed
Sadly though, we will not be changing the “no music” rule, as a family campsite, you can sit by the beautiful river Avon and hear the birds singing. That is the experience we encourage.
We used to allow music, but too many people abused it so we had to make a decision on what was more valuable to the customers

Polubione Beautiful Location. Lovely River. Kids loved it and nice walk to a pub. Very easy to get to. Saw some lovely clamping facilities as well with hot tubs!

Niepolubione The tap on the dish washing facility was quite hard to use as it was broken . Also it said no music but on the second night a lot of campers played trance and techno which was quite annoying .

Niepolubione Guidelines clearly state for parties not to pitch in front of entrances to the river which every single party did. Me and my friend remained polite however, there were families that were judging and staring because we had to walk through their pitch up. This made us feel quite uncomfortable.

The big draw around here is Warwick Castle (15 minutes’ drive) – it’s well worth a proper day out to explore the dungeons, take in the shows, get lost in the maze, see the birds of prey flying, wander through the 64 acres of the estate… oh, and visit the castle itself, of course.
