There are many reasons why one might fancy settling down by a river – perhaps for the fishing, the views, the wildlife… maybe even the chance to get in the water. Happily, all of the above are on the cards at Avon Wild Camping, a peaceful Warwickshire site on the banks of the River Avon 15 minutes' drive from Leamington Spa. There’s a mighty pretty stretch of the river running alongside one side of this site, making it a prime spot for kids to paddle and catch minnows in the shallows (under supervision, of course) or for grownups to pick up permits (available on site for an extra charge) to try their luck with the chub, pike, grayling, roach and brown trout that swim in the waters. It’s a popular part of the world with wildlife too, so settling down by the river with binoculars and/or a drink also comes highly recommended. All is very laidback around here: it’s a pick-your-own pitch place, with heaps of space to choose from around the 12 acres of meadow. Being a back-to-basics site, there are no electric hookups, but there is access to limited (but clean) toilet facilities, showers and running water. As this is an eco site, the toilets run on rainwater, guests are strongly encouraged to recycle and, without wifi, the kids are free to focus on playing by the river. Alfresco meals can be cooked up at the campfire area; there are firepits and kiln-dried timber available if you need them. Pick up supplies for such things at the farm shop a mile away; it’s also got a café for coffee, cakes, pizzas and other meals if you’d rather eat out. There are several good country pubs nearby too, or you could scoot into Royal Leamington Spa (10 minutes’ drive) for more places to eat and drink.

喜欢 Absolutely beautiful place toilets showers kept clean one morning there was no water in toilets but was sorted out asap so no worries the response was fast its nice to see it was sorted so quick. kids had a great time making new friends fishing and playing in the river I only seen them when they wanted food 😀 first time on my own with my kids but was made to feel welcome and made some friends with other single mummy campers

喜欢 Relaxed, quiet, simple facilities. Easy entry with number plate recognition. River access.

来自经理: Thank you for your crap score, you really don’t have a clue about anything do you.

We had one burst pipe in the morning, this was fixed at 7am… I don’t know many other businesses that could fix something that quickly

Luckily we have 4 new toilets and 4 new showers being installed so this will help.

With regards to a dog barking, I’m really sorry but we can’t stop dogs barking you dumb ass, if reported to the site manager we would still try to help… probably by sending you home as you are clearly the only problem onsite

Some areas of the site are not mowed, that’s because it’s called Wild camping, we added the word “wild” to our title for people like you that clearly can’t read.

Complaining that a wild campsite was a bit “wild” is like going on safari and complaining that you saw too many animals… there’s always a clueless keyboard warrior that has nothing better to do than whinge, I’m surprised that you didn’t whinge about the birds singing, or the river water for flowing too fast

喜欢 This was our first time semi wild camping, ideal site for wild swimming and fishing. The owner came around during the evening to check everyone was ok and explain the new toilets were open. They had fire pits around which you could use and you’re able to buy firewood there.

不喜欢 There was a large group that stayed up playing music and drinking into the early hours of the night and they had a large puppy dog whom barked non stop which ruined it for us. There were some people nearer the water that got very territorial over their spot and scared my teen son away as he wanted to fish there.

喜欢 Great camping field, loved being close to the river. We paddle boarded straight from the site and had a fire. We were free to pitch where we wanted. Great site will visit again

The big draw around here is Warwick Castle (15 minutes’ drive) – it’s well worth a proper day out to explore the dungeons, take in the shows, get lost in the maze, see the birds of prey flying, wander through the 64 acres of the estate… oh, and visit the castle itself, of course. For something just a little less expansive, head instead to Kenilworth Castle and Elizabethan Garden (15 minutes) or stroll around the pretty Jephson Gardens in Royal Leamington Spa (10 minutes). Coventry (15 minutes) and Stratford-upon-Avon (25 minutes) are other good options for urban days out; try Ryton Pools Country Park (five minutes) or Stoneleigh Deer Golf Club (over the road) if you’d rather stay rural. If you need family days out, take bouncy kids over to the Jump In trampoline park (15 minutes), or get set for farm-based fun among the animals, play areas, funfair rides and escape rooms at Hatton Adventure World (25 minutes).
