You may have visited Rutland Water before, but have you ever spent the night right there on its banks? Well, here’s your chance to do just that, because Lyndon Top is spread out over a peaceful 112 acres on the southern shore, with stunning views over the water. And while those views are wonderful, there’s a fair amount more to see around the lake’s shores – so it’s handy that you can set straight out from the site for walks or bike rides on the path that runs all the way around the edge (22 miles in total). On top of that, there’s plenty of choice for other outdoorsy activities, including fly fishing, birdwatching, golf, canoeing and windsurfing (along with boat cruises and lakeside dining if you’re after minimal activity). Think a barbecue at your pitch might be more your kind of thing? Top plan. Barbecues are allowed at Lyndon Top, and you can pick up whatever supplies you need in Oakham or Uppingham (both 10 minutes’ drive), or while out in Stamford (15 minutes). Back at base, it’s a peaceful setup that welcomes families, couples and solo campers (and dogs, if you’d like to bring them) to spacious pitches in a tree-lined field. Handy facilities include picnic tables and a chemical disposal point, along with a very smart and well-equipped modern amenities block that houses stylish toilets and showers, a washing-up area, a family bathroom and accessible facilities, Lyndon Top is not the place for a party of any sort, so the site doesn’t accept bookings from single-sex groups or other non-family groups.

Deze onlangs gerenoveerde camping biedt prachtig uitzicht op Rutland Water, ruime plekken en zeer schone, moderne faciliteiten van hotelkwaliteit. Gasten prijzen het vriendelijke personeel. Kleine minpunten: geen koud water in badkamers en weinig haakjes in doucheruimtes. Veel gasten willen terugkeren.

The shower block is like something you’d find in a 5 star hotel.

Ik was blij met Staff were friendly and helpful. Facilities were nicer than hotels i’ve stayed in. Views were awesome. Was simply put a superb site, with absolutely nothing I could fault at all!

Ik was blij met Great location with views over Rutland Water, excellent new facilities and welcoming friendly staff. Loads of space and not packed even in the school holidcays. Plenty of cyclling & walking routes on the doorstep plus opportunities for coffee & cake not far away. Shall be returning :)

Ik was blij met Beautiful spot with modern facilities overlooking Rutland Water.
Very child friendly and secure

Ik was niet blij met No facilities for disabled people. My mother is elderly and struggled without any support handles in any of the showers or toilets. Something that could easily be remedied.
The electric pitch is a bit of a con… pay extra for the pitch then pay for your electric via an app.

Van de manager: Hello and thank you for your review. We are currently waiting on all the equipment we need for our dedicated disabled toilet and shower room so that will should be up and running next time you visit us!

With regard to the electric, I’m sorry you feel like it is a con but I can assure you it is not. You have 8kwh of electric included in your pitch fee which is more than enough for most guests, however, if you are a heavy user, you pay for any excess you use over and above the 8kwh. Subject to you not going above your allowance, you should not of had to pay anymore than your pitch fee. If you feel like you have been charged for something you shouldn’t have been, please get in touch and we would be happy to look into this for you.

- Some of the best facilities I've seen on a campsite
- Site is really easy to find and access
- Great staff, friendly, helpful and present. (I booked the wrong day by accident and they fixed my problem within minutes, no fuss, no drama).
- Nice people, dog friendly

Ik was niet blij met - If you don't get a lake view spot then the views are a bit naff. It's one of those campsites where the good spots are very few and you need to get there early or be lucky.

Ik was blij met We really liked the location and pitches on offer with views of Rutland Water. The site was busy, having stayed in the summer holidays, but it remained quite peaceful and relaxing for us and our dog - we can imagine it would be really lovely off season. We really liked the flexible check in and check out, allowing additional time to enjoy the views of the lake and relax. We also appreciated that campfires were banned, having recently stayed at a site that was actively encouraging them, despite the serious risk of wildfires this summer. The facilities were also quite fancy for a campsite, which was a nice bonus.

Ik was niet blij met We didn't really dislike anything but in terms of practicality, the facilities and waste disposal were central to the site but meant they were quite far from pitches closer to the lake. It wasn't a problem and just more of a note.

Lokale bezienswaardigheden

The area immediately around Rutland Water is a real playground for those who love outdoor activities. Rutland Water Golf Club is pretty much next door, and good access to the lakeside trail means you can easily get out to cycle around the entire perimeter or take a walk to Normanton church (an hour’s walk), set on a little spur in the lake. Fishing (for trout and pike) and birdwatching are available in several spots around the lake, while up on the north shore you can play miniature golf, hire watersports kit or bounce across the inflatables at Rutland Aqua Park (15 minutes’ drive). When it’s time for a rest, head to the sandy beach area (10 minutes) or take a cruise across the water (15 minutes). Away from the lake, you may like to stroll among the blooms at Barnsdale Gardens (15 minutes), see the vintage trains at Rocks By Rail Living Ironstone Museum (15 minutes) or step inside some grand buildings with trips to Rockingham Castle (20 minutes) and Burghley House (25 minutes).
