Looking over the pitches

  • Peaceful, well-kept 112-acre site on the shore of Rutland Water
  • A 10-minute drive from Oakham and Uppingham; golf club next door
  • Direct access to the walking/bike path around the lake's edge
Lyndon Top is a well-kept touring park on the shores of Rutland Water, spread over a peaceful 112 acres and with stunning views out over the water. And while those views are indeed tiptop, there’s a fair amount more to see around the lake’s shores so it’s handy that you can set straight out from the site for walks or bike rides on the path that runs all the way around the edge (22 miles in total). On top of that, there’s plenty of choice for other outdoorsy activities, including fly fishing, birdwatching, golf, canoeing and windsurfing (along with boat cruises and lakeside dining if you’re after minimal activity). Think a barbecue at your pitch might be more your kind of thing? Top plan. Such things are allowed at Lyndon Top, and you can pick up whatever supplies you need in Oakham or Uppingham (both 10 minutes’ drive), or while out in Stamford (15 minutes). Back at base, it’s a peaceful setup that welcomes families, couples and solo campers (and dogs, if you’d like to bring them) to spacious pitches in a tree-lined field. It’s really not the place for a party of any sort, so the site doesn’t accept bookings from single-sex groups or other non-family groups.

What customers say

Stunning views, hotel-clean ablutions, spacious pitches, and super staff. Some minor renovation snags, but well-kept. Guests suggest more loos, cold taps, freezer. A few refund woes for cancellations during refurbs.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Incredible toilet and shower facilities which were kept impeccably clean.
Huge space- able to set up well away from others in desired locations rather than set pitches ( we were without electricity).
The staff were excellent always present, friendly and professional.
I have no rearrvations recommending this site to others.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Lovely new toilet block and showers. Every where clean and tidy. I stayed on a busy school holidays Saturday night but there was still plenty of space and it was quiet after dark. Lots of water taps throughout the site. Some fields have views of Rutland Water. Well run, will be back!

Disliked My only request would be a few more hooks on the doors in the shower area to hang towels, clothes, toiletries on. However this is a very minor point. Everything else was perfect 👍

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Spacious grass field.
Lovely clean toilet block.

Disliked Pot washing areas would have benefitted from proper draining boards rather than rough sawn wood. Would have liked cold water in the toilets for teeth brushing.

Although this is not the fault of the owners, it wasn't as peaceful as we were hoping - kept awake at night by loud music which we think was coming from the next door golf club. Then awoken early next morning by a 6:30am swimming event with loud music and tannoy announcements.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked A warm welcome to the site after which we were guided to a pitch with an absolutely breathtaking view of the water. Wash facilities were out of this world: incredibly clean, fresh scented, better than hotel-standard showers.

The site was absolutely amazing, toilets and showers are the best we have ever been to while camping. The views are incredible. The site its self is very well laid out and clean. All the staff are very friendly and helpful.

Disliked Not a dislike at all, would just take the site one step further is to have a cafe/ little shop.
