Looking over the pitches

  • Peaceful, well-kept 112-acre site on the shore of Rutland Water
  • A 10-minute drive from Oakham and Uppingham; golf club next door
  • Direct access to the walking/bike path around the lake's edge
Lyndon Top is a well-kept touring park on the shores of Rutland Water, spread over a peaceful 112 acres and with stunning views out over the water. And while those views are indeed tiptop, there’s a fair amount more to see around the lake’s shores so it’s handy that you can set straight out from the site for walks or bike rides on the path that runs all the way around the edge (22 miles in total). On top of that, there’s plenty of choice for other outdoorsy activities, including fly fishing, birdwatching, golf, canoeing and windsurfing (along with boat cruises and lakeside dining if you’re after minimal activity). Think a barbecue at your pitch might be more your kind of thing? Top plan. Such things are allowed at Lyndon Top, and you can pick up whatever supplies you need in Oakham or Uppingham (both 10 minutes’ drive), or while out in Stamford (15 minutes). Back at base, it’s a peaceful setup that welcomes families, couples and solo campers (and dogs, if you’d like to bring them) to spacious pitches in a tree-lined field. It’s really not the place for a party of any sort, so the site doesn’t accept bookings from single-sex groups or other non-family groups.

What customers say

Spectacular Rutland Water views & spotless hotel-style amenities. Generous pitches, ace staff. Minor reno touches noted, but well-kept. Guests suggest more loos, cold taps & ice pack freezer. Some refund hassles for cancelled stays during works.

Liked Could not fault this site at all, absolutely brilliant. The best toilet/shower block ever - so so clean and fresh.
There are plenty of pitches to choose from, and nicely spaced apart (in fact, the site is huge yet not overcrowded at all).
Each electric point also has a water tap too.
Lovely garden centre not door for meals (but expensive!).

Disliked Nothing

Unpowered grass site

Liked Lots and I mean lots of space. We stayed last weekend in July and I was worried it was going to be too packed but it was awesome. We didn’t have EHU and chose the furthest field from the toilets as we are self contained but even the closer fields were spacious.
The toilet and shower block was like walking into an upmarket hotel. Beautiful finished and very clean. There were even ionic hairdryers in the ladies.
It is very obvious that this site has just opened and because of the hot weather they have been unable to grass some bits where work has been done but it doesn’t present any issues.

Disliked Could do with a cold water tap at the sinks so you could brush teeth

Liked Absolutely stunning site, very well maintained. Staff were really friendly upon arrival and during our stay. The toilet block... wow! Like a 5* hotel absolutely stunning and with hair dryers in the women's toilets/shower room too. I will be coming back soon! Just had a really relaxing and fun weekend with the kids. Thank you!

Disliked I just didnt personally like the distance to the wash room which includes washing up area. Was difficult with two young kids but others might not find this a challenge.

Liked This site is huge! We were met by a friendly team who welcomed us and exolained where everything was (and recommended the Wheatsheaf up the road for dinner, which was indeed lovely!) It's organised into different fields, some busy, some with acres of space around you. We could pitch where we liked which was lovely. Toilets were spotless and modern and we definitely plan on staying here again.

Disliked Nothing to dislike, we had a wonderful stay.

Liked AMAZING site with lake views. Facilities are top notch. You won’t find better toilet and shower facilities, like a hotel. Would highly recommend. Lots of water taps around too so you are never far from a fresh supply.
Would have liked a children’s play area but thats just me as a single mum with a very active 6 year old.
