Power optional gravel and cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite
Liked Wayne is a top class host, welcoming, honest & friendly. Lovely little site. Absolutely spotless, font think I have ever seen a cleaner shower & toilet block. You are not charged for multitude of extras. Electricity is charged by how much you use & not the standard £5 a night flat rate. We stayed 2 nights electric less than £1.50. Very safe sight with electric gates you are given the access code on arrival. & Wayne sells duck eggs which were amazing.
Some great quirky features on site. An area to walk the dogs and the grounds are stunning. Little hidden gem for a peaceful getaway.

Liked Great sized pitches. Super friendly hosts. Great getaway to relax & unwind overlooking the marina.
Great walks for dogs. Lovely tea room 10/10 for the homemade cakes.
Disliked If you want a campsite that's commercial & loud this is not the place to go. If you want to escape from it all for a few days of stress free living then this is your ideal place.
I have nothing I dislike.

Liked Great hosts. The owners go above and beyond. Really helpful & friendly & boy are they hardworking.
Good size pitches. Lovely tea room. Cakes are amazing.
The heavens unfortunately opened up during our stay & boy did it rain. I imagine in summer this place would be amazing to sit outside & watch the boats (definitely on my list to return)
Disliked Showers could do with somewhere to put your stuff when showering

Liked Laid back campsite, basic off grid. Special events in the cow shed barn are great.
If you are coming & expect all bells & whistles, this is not the campsite for you. If you are coming for a break from it all in a campsite with amazing views & a great no nonsense host, you really should visit.
A genuinely dog friendly site, allowed in all places.

Luxury Woodland lodge (hot tub)
Liked Cabin was absolutely spotless on arrival. Has everything you need for your stay, towels, bedding, tea coffee etc.
Hot tub was the perfect temperature. Beautiful setting for the cabins, set back from the main campsite within a small wooded area.
Made to feel very welcome on check in and check out.
Doesn't offer free WiFi but phone signal is 5G and be fair came to get away, so not an issue.
Disliked Having to come home after an amazingly relaxing 2 days.
If I had to puck something, perhaps a mop in the cabins as you do tend to walk in water & a shame use the lovely fresh white towels supplied.

Madoc Lake primitive cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite
Liked Our 2nd visit, and it didn't disappoint, just planning when we can come again.
So honest review, pitches are absolutely massive, downside concrete under the bricks so go close to the grass if needing to peg anything down. The lake is fabulous for paddle boarding etc. We bobbed around in a dingy, lake water is waist height for me (I'm 5ft 1) can't comment in the plentiful fishing lakes, but if you do fish you are spoilt for choice on lakes. Yet to try the cafe or pizza, but the bar has a very relaxed feel. Showers are free there is only one by the lake but never a queue for it. If wild swimming bring beach shoes as its silt at the bottom. Loved our stay, would highly recommend & will definitely be returning for a longer stay.

Primitive grass campervan campsite
Liked If you are looking for a quiet site, off grid with no phone or WiFi access this is the site for you.
Nice communal kitchen/meeting area. Clean showers & toilets.
Grounds are well kept & also some areas kept natural. Saw lots of little rabbits about running freely, was nice to see.
It is a very peaceful site, dog friendly & great for hiking.
Disliked The road at access the side is narrow with just room enough for one vehicle.
We kept asking ourselves what was missing & realised for us it's the sound of kids playing & enjoying themselves so as this was an adult only site , this would prevent our return (although obviously just our preference & a bonus for others) phone signal non existent & no Internet, due to rural location.
Recommend to friends Visit again
From the manager: Hello Lesa , Thanks for your review , the access road is single track with passing places for one mile ! We do have free Internet connection in the communal area ! The phone signal is good with EE , but not great otherwise ! We are obviously adults only as advertised , so no children ! Many thanks Dave Allen

Liked Lovely little site, absolutely spotless. Good size pitches not packed in. Electric is charged by what you use not the usual £5 a night flat fee. Cost us under £1 for two days we ran the fridge, lights & TV.
Owner Wayne is really friendly & down to earth. Loved the field dogs can run off lead.
Showers & toilets are spotless. Gardens on site are immaculate. Site has some really nice quirky touches. Very quiet peaceful site, great for getting away from it all.
Disliked Only negative is phone signal not brilliant if you needed it & no WiFi, however in all honesty lovely to get away from it all & nice to see kids outside playing football, riding bikes.

Primitive grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite
Liked We booked months in advance for a camper, arrived to an unpassable water logged field. While I accept the site is not responsible for weather, I don't accept no call to warn. They tried to pitch us on the boggy field, having realised we would get stuck offered us some gravel but would need to move at 4pm that day! Was told I should have booked a large pitch. I booked via pitch up staring campervan & measurements of said van.
We waited 45 minutes to reach some conclusion given it was a Bank Holiday weekend to then be issued a refund minus pitchup deposit., even though we booked weeks in advance. Pre warning field was flooded would have been the polite thing to do prior to us having a wasted journey.
My advice if there has been rain do not waste your time.
Disliked Not being informed they could not accommodate a pre booked trip
Recommend to friends Visit again
From the manager: Comments noted, apologies again, unfortunately even though you book as a campervan when booking it does not show on your booking confirmation at this end, it tells us what your booking details are with regard to contact details etc, pitch type as non-electric, grass tent, campervan or trailer tent, so not specifying which. Arrival date, party No's & price paid. We had had on the Wednesday a month's worth of rain in 24hrs, as you state we can not be responsible for the weather. I agree that a phone call would have sufficed but not sure if I could have got through all the bookings before Friday. Hopefully we will be able to resolve the booking issue with pitch-up with regards to campervans so that we know what is coming as we have limited hardstanding, if possible put campervans on a separate allocation. The previous weekend was beautiful with the field dry and no issues.

Liked Came across this site having been let down by our pre-booked campsite.
Was met by the most welcoming host. Could not be more welcoming or friendly.
So honest review about the campsite. If you want EHU & all the mod cons, this is not the campsite for you. If you want to go back to a no thrills site with views to die for in a picturesque village, with possibly the nicest owner I've ever come across then Field farm is just that. A quiet piece of heaven, with the warmest of welcomes.
Thank you for your hospitality will most definitely return.

Liked Very basic, no thrills site. Great little camping shop, donkeys onsite are lovely. Views are amazing. Fishing lakes are great.
Disliked Take wellies in wet weather field does get waterlogged & can be tricky drive off.

From the manager: Thank you so much for your review & sharing your photos, much appreciated - glad you enjoyed the donkeys & fishing lakes - unfortunately with the Summer we have had with all the rain storms it has caused the field to be wet, a few days of dry weather would be nice
Peak Forest, Derbyshire, England
Primitive cement/asphalt and grass campsite
Liked Liked: this is a small campsite behind the pub with four very generous sized pitches.
it has a very relaxed laid back vibe. Although pitchup says it has no shower facility their is a static caravan which has two toilets and a shower (with no annoying push button and no additional charge to use). the other side of the static caravan is a little honesty shop, selling everyday essentials, and very reasonably priced.
views from the campsite are amazing and the pitch is relatively level, we didn't need to use the levelling ramps on the van. You get a lovely welcome text the day before your stay, and get the Wi-Fi code for both inside the pub and at your pitch, included in the very reasonable price to stay.
we had a few drinks in the pub and were made to feel extremely welcome, the staff team are great and all really friendly. it is dog friendly which is why we chose to come and dogs are allowed in the bar. We had a meal on our last night and this is reasonably priced (around £15 per meal) food is home cooked, generous portions and delicious. I would definitely recommend a stay here and we are just looking to see when we have availability and time to return.
Disliked there would be nothing negative I could add.
