Do you dread spending your hols behind the wheel? Park up at Camping Les 3 Lacs du Soleil and throw away the keys – you won't need them at this family-friendly site half an hour’s stroll from the Isère village of Trept.
On the banks of three lakes, Les 3 Lacs is in a dream spot, roughly an hour from Lyon and Grenoble and with plenty of châteaux, scenic villages and amusement parks in between. But you’d be forgiven for never wanting to leave the site, as there’s plenty to do here to keep the whole family entertained. You could have a swim in the outdoor pool (or the paddling pool for younger guests) or make your way to the lakes to go for a dip, bask on the sandy beach, take out a paddle boat, have a splashing time on the waterslides or cast out a line for some fishing.
Out of the water, there’s a multi-sports area, two tennis courts, pétanque, in-line skating, beach volleyball, miniature golf, an indoor play area and leisure activities to keep you busy during the high season. Parents in need of a break can pack the kids off to the kids’ club while they have a massage (be sure to book in advance).
You won’t need to leave when you’re ready for eats either – order bread from the on-site bakery during high season, head to the restaurant (with an outdoor terrace that overlooks one of the lakes ) or high-season snack bar and takeaway, or fire up the barbecue (supplies from small shop on site).

Local attractions
Explore the scenic Isère with trips to some of the department’s most spectacular villages, towns and building, starting with Château Delphinal then the 15th-century covered market and the Augustine convent at Crémieu. The medieval tower and views of Le Bugey and the Alps in the ‘city of painters’ at Morestel, both 10 minutes’ drive away, are also much recommended.
Take a peek at the Romanesque frescoes in the abbey at Saint-Chef, 15 minutes from the site, or pile in the car for road trips to stunning Château de Virieu and Chambéry’s Château des Ducs de Savoie, both around an hour away.
Step away from history to keep the kids entertained at Walibi theme park, Parc de Moidière and Domaine des Fauves zoos, or by mooching around underground at the caves of La Balme (all less than half an hour away), then entertain the grownups with a trip to the Chartreuse cellars.
