  • Pools with waterslides, sauna and hammam all free for guests

The beaches of Benodet are a smashing Brittany holiday spot. How fortuitous a setting then has Camping du Poulquer, a handsomely green site only 200 metres from these scenic sands and less than a kilometre from Benodet town centre. The old fishing port of Concarneau and the mightily traditional town of Quimper are both under half an hour's drive. For splashing around on site, a stay at du Poulquer also includes free access to its fine waterpark with indoor and outdoor pools, paddling pool, waterslides, hammam and sauna – again, all gratis for guests… There’s also a play area with netted trampoline, ping pong tables and big bouncy castle for kids, and regular activities such as pétanque tournaments and disco and karaoke nights for adults and teens. Food and free wifi are sorted at the snack bar. Camping du Poulquer is also equipped with toilet blocks suitable for disabled guests, free hot showers, a launderette and a washing-up corner. Bars, restaurants, shops, a spa and a casino are a short stroll away.

What customers say

This family-friendly campsite earns praise for its prime location, a short stroll from the beach and local shops. Guests rave about the generous, private sites, spotless restrooms, and fun pools. Staff are consistently called friendly and helpful. A few noted some dated facilities and that the on-site bar/snackbar isn't always open, particularly off-season. A top pick for families wanting a laid-back getaway.

Liked Campsite is at a great location(250m from the promenade.)
All the facilities were cleaned very regularly.
Staff were polite & courteous.
Our pitch was a good size surrounded by hedging and very private and close to the facilities.

Disliked We were there 3rd week in June.
Still prepping the place for the high season.
Outdoor pool area closed and a couple of other repairs going on.
There’s a long winter there for that.

Power optional grass campsite

Liked The toilets/showers were spotless. The swimming pool was lovely and warm. The manager went out of his way to be helpful. He even walked us to our pitch. I would recommend staying here.

Disliked The grass on the pitch we were allocated (K12) hadn't been cut, but we could hear the grass cutter cutting the grass on other pitches. Also because the hedges were so high, there was a lot of shade & we couldn't sit out for as long as we had hoped in the evening, even though the sun was out. The snack/bar is only open in july/August & so we had to walk into the village for our breakfast. On a lot of sites we have stayed on, you could buy croissants and baguettes from the baker who would call every morning. It's a shame that this didn't happen on this site.

Local attractions

Spas and sands are the main order of leisurely business around seasidey Benodet: the town's known as a thalassotherapy centre and four golden sandy beaches are within a kilometre of Camping du Poulquer. As well as the beaches here, get along to Plage des Dames and the Plage des Sables Blancs for serene sunbathing, or take a ferry to the nearby Glénan Islands. Among the many other Finistère and Brittany options easily reached from Benodet is Concarneau, the third biggest fishing port in France which has an Old Town on a rocky island just off the coast, a fishing museum and a fine indoor market selling fish (mais oui), fruit, veg and other local produce. Another must is Quimper, the old Brittany town where you'll still see women in traditional Breton dress (and head coverings), among the cobbled streets and half-timbered buildings. You could also take a look at the port town of Pont-l'Abbé, with the remains of its 14th-century castle as well as the Bigouden Museum also showcasing traditional dress and headpieces, or the village of Locranon. For outdoorsy antics, hike along the 12-kilometre circular trail through the forest of Bois de Névet, looking out for deer, foxes, badgers and buzzards along the way.
