  • Namur family campsite with spectacular Ardennes Forest views
  • A 15-minute drive to the Euro Space Center and Castle of the Counts
  • Pool, café, grocery shop and entertainment in high season
Set amid Namur woodland on the southern slope of a hill edging the Ardennes Forest, Papillon Rochefort is surrounded by spectacular valleys, forests and rivers. That means plenty of chances for hikers, cyclists and mountain bikers to get out under their own steam to explore the region, while sightseeing families discover pretty Walloon cities like Dinant within half an hour’s drive. If you prefer to stay put on your woodland pitch, you won’t be short of stuff to do on site. The swimming pool is the focus of daily life in July and August, and there are other sports facilities including table tennis and pétanque, and a playing field for friendly football or volleyball matches. A couple of play areas with slides and swings take care of the younger guests, and the campsite’s entertainment team organises treasure hunts and hide-and-seek games in high season. The team also holds archery sessions – everyone welcome – and walking tours in the Ardennes countryside. If they sound too sedate, hire mountain bikes or book kayak trips along the Lesse River from reception – where there’s also lots of useful tourist information. Cosy La Cafet café is open for snacks, pizzas and organic drinks in July and August and on holiday weekends, and you can order breakfast pastries the night before from reception. The small neighbouring shop has plenty of fresh food, toiletries and sweets to treat well-behaved kids.

What customers say

This beautiful, peaceful, wooded campsite offers spacious sites and a popular cafe. Staff are consistently praised for friendliness. While the setting is lovely, some guests reported issues with sanitary facilities: cleanliness, toilet/shower availability, and shower token/temperature problems. The pool was sometimes closed or needed work.

Powered grass and gravel RV campsite

Liked Any British looking at this site should read this before booking as worst treatment I have ever had .
i always write truthfully about my reviews and i also have over 71k reviews on Google so have been doing it for a while only to help others

Disliked We booked and arrived on the way back from a long holiday of some 3000miles when we got here everything seemed fine we went to reception and was greeted and gave a pitch number 390 the reception said we had payed for 4 nights but after i looked i realised she was wrong it was down as 3 so we payed for the extra night we was gave 1 token per person per day for the shower that they only have 1 shower which is clean but the only one on site so expect a massive wait to use toilet or shower we set up and went looking for the shop or restaurant that is advertised on pitchup to get something for lunch but they don't have a shop or restaurant on site as its now used for storage so wrong information on pitchup we packed back down and drove 5km to local store when we got back and set back up we went to the lovely looking pool but again the pictures on pitchup are not what is there the pool area is very run down and not safe for younger children if you have young children like us you can't use it anyway as no staff on site no safety rules and full of teenagers running riot throwing footballs at each other and jumping in without looking or a care for the safety of others until one landed on my 9 year olds head so that was that for the pool as my son would not go back to the pool as he was scared and had a lump on his forehead they couldn't play near the motorhome as there where 5 electricity cables running across the road so at night very dangerous and not good for kids to play but that's not the end after the 3rd night we had a French motorhome pulled next to our pitch and said they had booked it after looking on the site map that they had been given it was clear they had booked ours to someone else so I went to reception and they was a different older woman behind the desk and while I explaining the issue she completely blanked me and answered the phone not 1 call but 2 so i stopped talking untill she was listening again I calmly told her she was very ignorant and she replied they had booked it and I had to move no sorry for inconvenience just told to move the words she actually used was they are French and have booked it they take priority yes you heard me right and i should move to another pitch so i asked for a refund of the last night and she said no refund so I told her it was down to them to sort the issue and I will be complaining she said you do what you want and started to serve someone else i moved my motorhome to the far end of the site for the last night and we stayed in the motorhome I have used many site all over Belgium and France and this one as made my blood boil I understand things can go wrong but the fact they have no shop or restaurant on site it as only 1 toilet and 1 shower for over 50 campers only1 working washing machine out of 2 on the whole site of over 200 spots I really tried to cope but the lack of any apology and the complete disrespect towards my wife and me I can not and will not overlook it as really made me think its such a shame as we have been to 17 sites over the last 4 week trip from uk into France then to spain germany and Belgium then back to france and this as been far the worst experience we have had at any of them so if you are looking for a relaxing site for your family this one is not for you
could not take a pic of pool as people using it

Powered grass campsite

Power optional grass tent campsite

Zwembad was jammergenoeg gesloten.

Power optional grass travel trailer campsite

Liked We chose to stay on the motorhome field across the road from the main campsite, and it couldn't have been nicer. Being still in June, the snack bar and pool were not yet open. The staff were always friendly and helpful.
The sanitary block for our area was always immaculate, cleaned and checked regularly, and smelled great! There was hot water in the washing up area, too. I question whether two showers, loos and sinks would be enough if the field was full (it was just us and one other van, so no issues for our visit).
We walked to the village for a Trappist beer in the restaurant/bar - just a 10-15 minute walk.
All in all, it's a fabulous campsite and on our list for a return visit one day.

Liked Staff were kind & it was fairly quiet in our area!

Disliked No soap or toilet paper in the toilet. The women’s toilet was around the back of the block which meant you had to walk on rotten wood to get there.

Local attractions

If you’re travelling as a family, you may well find the kids demanding a visit to the Euro Space Center (15 minutes’ drive) for 4D planetarium films and free-fall slides. You may not be able to resist a visit to Doneu Ostrich Farm (20 minutes) either, for the chance to meet the birds and their cute chicks, while the limestones cave formations at the Domain of the Caves of Han (five minutes) are likely to captivate most kids too. To see how life in the Ardennes was under Roman occupation, travel 2000 years back in time at Malagne - Archéoparc de Rochefort (15 minutes) to tour the archaeological remains and reconstructed village. Another open-air museum is the Musée de la Vie Rurale en Wallonie (25 minutes), with half-timbered cottages, a traditional church and old farming implements on display. For more recent heritage, see the atmospheric ruins of the medieval Castle of the Counts behind the impressive present-day Château Comtal de Rochefort (15 minutes), and explore the formal gardens and room laid out in period style at moated Château de Lavaux-Sainte-Anne (five minutes).
