Electric grass and hardstanding pitch

  • Small peaceful wildlife haven within easy reach of famed beaches
  • Within 15 minutes' drive of Tenby, Saundersfoot and Folly Farm
  • Clean showers and toilets; barbecues allowed
Hide away here for as long as you can manage. Covert Farm Camping is a family-run haven next to a Site of Special Scientific Interest, home to a wide variety of birds and wildlife living among reeds and trees… and it's only 10 minutes' drive from this splendid spot to the spectacular Pembrokeshire coast. The owners have set the site up to be a peaceful getaway for guests who want to unwind in a wildlife haven. The farm is surrounded by fields for leisurely walks away from roads, too, and a huge number of family days out are close by: Saundersfoot and Tenby beaches, Heatherton, Folly Farm and Manor Wildlife Park are all within 15 minutes' drive. Gratified former guests have approved most fervently of this lovely little site, hailing the friendly team, the spotless amenities and the setting among other aspects. Levelling blocks may be required for some pitches. The toilet and shower block has hot running water and washing-up facilities.

What customers say

Guests love the peaceful vibe, helpful owners, and prime location near Tenby/Saundersfoot. Clean facilities, spacious pitches (some sloped, bring levelers). Dog area a plus. Facilities are rustic to adequate, depending on opinion.

I wouldn't recommend this campsite, not at such an unreasonable price.

Primitive grass tent or RV campsite

Liked The location is quite good, with easy access to nice places to visit and eat nearby. The scenery itself is pleasant, and the shower facilities were generally okay, although they are combined with the toilet and lack even a basic curtain, which makes them feel uncomfortable and impractical.

Disliked There were numerous issues that made our stay stressful rather than relaxing. First of all, the campsite is very small and overcrowded, with pitches placed extremely close together, offering little to no privacy. We were not allowed to choose our pitch and were simply assigned one. Our pitch itself was in a very poor condition — full of holes and uneven ground. It was genuinely unsafe - my mother tripped and nearly twisted her ankle, and the rest of us kept stumbling all the time as well. This is something that should be properly maintained, especially considering the high prices charged.

The pricing structure is also excessive. Not only do you pay per person, but there are additional charges for things that are usually included elsewhere — for example, £4 per night for an extra car, which is something I have never encountered in over 10 years of camping in Wales. Facilities were lacking basic essentials such as paper towels or hand dryers in the toilets. On top of that, there were numerous unnecessary and overly controlling signs everywhere, including instructions written directly on fixtures (such as “GENTLE” written in marker on the flush), which created an uncomfortable atmosphere.

One of the biggest issues was the strict and inconsistent enforcement of rules. The website stated that barbecues were allowed, yet we were barely permitted to use one, even on a designated table, and only after insisting. Campfires and fire pits are not allowed on the campsite. This was extremely disappointing, as it takes away a big part of the camping experience. We were freezing in the evening, not allowed to burn a little firepit above the ground even if the grass was very moist that evening.

The behaviour of one of the staff members (a woman at reception) was particularly off-putting. She came across as overly controlling, inconsistent, and insincere. Rather than feeling welcomed, we felt constantly watched and judged, which made it impossible to relax.

The campsite is also surrounded by large numbers of pigeons, which were noisy throughout the day, and there were many wasps, adding to the discomfort. Two members of our family left after just one night because they did not enjoy the stay at all. We did not even attempt to request a refund, as it felt like it would not be handled fairly.

Another dislike is leaving at 10:30 when other campsites allow departure at 12 or 12:30. Arriving very late at 3 pm when other campsites allow it between 12-1 pm and departing at 10:30 sounds unreasonable.

Overall, despite the nice surroundings, the experience was dominated by poor maintenance, excessive charges, lack of privacy, and an uncomfortable, overly controlled atmosphere. This was by far one of the worst camping experiences we have had, especially considering the price.

I would not recommend this campsite, particularly not at such an unreasonably high cost.

Liked Warm welcome. Flat pitch. We booked a grass electric but were given the option of any pitch as the place was very quiet so we picked one that offered at least some shade on one of the hottest weekends of the year.

Disliked It’s a basic site. Very rustic showers and toilets. Just love the smell of horse manure when I’m having a shower 🤢.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass tent or RV campsite

Liked Lovely peaceful location where you can immerse yourself in the nature around. Very little road sound. Easy access to amenities and tourist attractions. Very welcoming host. Attention to detail on cleanliness. Decent sized pitches.

Disliked Required effort to level our caravan as the pitches are sloping.
Might prefer a check in earlier than 3 if possible.

Local attractions

No more than 15 minutes' drive (handy if you have less-than-patient kids) will take you to an excellent range of family and sandy days out near the farm: take your pick from beach and paddling days, boat trips, wildlife adventures, amusement parks, castles… and a dinosaur park. Saundersfoot (10 minutes' drive away) is, along with Tenby, one of the most visited holiday spots in Wales, home to an award-wining beach and the Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo. Another award-wining beach is at Tenby, along with the ruins of Tenby Castle, boat trips to Caldey Island and the Tenby Dinosaur Park. Also within 10 minutes is Heatherton World of Activities, home to lots of fun options for all the family (even four-legged ones, as it has a dog agility course). Most kids should also clamour for a day at Manor House Wildlife Park, the only walking safari in Wales and home to exotic and endangered animals from around the world. Then try and get your small sorts interested in a spot of history with ventures to Carew and Pembroke castles each within 10 minutes' drive: these are so splendid it might be easier than you think…
