Hiker, biker or both? Walk this way. Gwynedd’s Torrent Walk Campsite and Bunkhouse is a mecca for mountain bikers and walkers, and has plenty of other activities to get stuck into nearby… For walkers, the Torrent Walk is only 500 metres from the site. Cadair Idris and its three trails can be tackled a short drive away. If you're aiming for Wales' tallest summit, then take the 50-minute drive to Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) too. Keen bikers can try out Dyfi Bike Park or Coed-y-Brenin, which are both within 20 minutes' drive of the site. Those with kids might want to pay a visit to the underground adventure at King Arthur's Labyrinth (15 minutes' drive) or the slate caverns at Zip World Llechwedd and Bounce Below (35 minutes). For watersports, head to Bala, 25 minutes' drive away, or for rides on the Welsh Highland Railway, aim for Porthmadog. At Corris Mine Explorers, 15 minutes' drive away, you can all take a tour of an abandoned Victorian slate mine too. Back at base, Torrent Walk Campsite and Bunkhouse is surrounded on all sides by woodland, farmland and mountain views, with pitches on a sheltered, level field. Site facilities include a toilet and shower block, disabled facilities, washing machines, tumble dryers, fridges, freezers, a microwave and mobile charging facilities. There’s also a power wash for bikes and equipment, and the Torrent Walk team can store your bike for you if needed. For stocking up, the garage just up the road sells essentials and camping gas. A shop and café are within five minutes' walk of the site. Otherwise, a small supermarket and a wide range of shops are in the village of Dolgellau, a mile and a half away. Cooking your own dinner? Campfires are allowed, but all the materials must be purchased on site. Looking for a dog-friendly beach day? Fairbourne beach and Barmouth beach are dog-friendly at some times of the year.

Power optional grass tent campsite (two person, small)

Liked The views were great for our pitch. Good location for the event we completed and staff advised us on a good walk just off the site.

Disliked Toilets were blocked, they got my booking wrong and didn’t have me done as electrical set up etc.
I found 1 staff member a bit rude taking a phone call on headset while talking to me.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: We are sorry to hear about that, mistakes do happen, staff member will be scolded about that, as per the toilets we advise to tell us if something is wrong so we can fix it, we check the toilets regularly but if something happens in the meantime and no one tells us, we cannot fix it!

Power optional grass tent campsite (two person, small)

Liked Very tidy love the Vue. clean facilities, friendly staff and level pitches

Disliked The pitch was on the hill could do with some toilets on top off the hill

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review, we are always happy when our campers are happy.
In the future we will look into having some toilets there, but it will be a bit hard as the infrastructure does not allow that.

Power optional grass campsite

Liked No nonsense booking through Pitchup, someone on site to show me the way to my pitch, despite the late hour. Price was fair, pitch size was more than enough for me and the facilities ticked most boxes.

Powered grass campsite

Liked Location, self check in, great for Torrent walk.

Disliked Tents mixed with campervans, We prefer separate areas as we had large vehicles around us......toilets blocked, shower cabins like sweat boxes and shower rails rusty.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to review us, we apologise about the toilets being blocked but we do urge you to tell us if you notice that so we can go and unblock them, we check the toilets at least 4 times per day but if in that time something happens, it is advisable to let us know so we can fix it!
Not sure what do you mean by showers like sweat boxes, shower rails we are actively looking for a solution from keeping them to rust as it is a damp area and metal rusts!

Overpriced for ordinary facilities.

Power optional grass tent campsite (two person, small)

Liked View from campsite.

Disliked Run down shelters with a few dilapidated chairs , drop toilet didn’t bother trying to find showers. Other campers dogs barking at all the time.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi there, thank you for taking the time to review us, i am not sure what shelters you are mentioning, we do not have shelters or chairs on the campsite, only whatever the campers bring with them, toilets and showers are more than obvious, in the middle of the campsite with plenty of signs to point to them, and we are sorry about other camper's barking dogs, we are a dog friendly campsite!!!

Power optional grass tent campsite (two person, small)

Liked Amazing location with so much to explore near by. From cozy welsh towns to a variety of walks fit for all ages. The Campsite accommodates for all your camping needs with clean toilets and warm showers that are plentiful. For those who love quite , sleeping won't be a problem as the area is not near any main roads , the noisiest neighbours are the owls which was a pleasure to listen too , really sets the scene for where your staying. Finally all staff working on camp were kind and always happy to help. Highly recommend to anyone who loves the outdoors. Till next time Torrent Walk :).

Powered grass campsite

Liked The site is tidy and well kept, we have stayed here in a tent around 13 years ago, it's changed alot for the better since then. Lovely to see the horses and the geese and goslings.

There's an ESSO garage at the top of the narrow road on the main A road plus a Starbucks

Local attractions

The mountains and trails of Snowdonia, the beaches of Barmouth and the north Wales coast, and heritage attractions like the Rheilffordd Talyllyn Railway and Harlech Castle are all within about half an hour’s drive of Torrent Walk, and Snowdonia National Park has activities for all sorts including whitewater rafting, horse riding, climbing and wild swimming. For gentle strolls, the National Trust managed Cregennan Lakes are about five miles west of Dolgellau on the slopes of Cadair ldris, and the flat Mawddach Trail between Dolgellau and Barmouth along the Mawddach estuary has hiking and biking paths with cracking views. Cregannan also has two lakes for fly and worm fishing, one for brown trout and the other for brown and blue. Head to the coast for Barmouth and Fairbourne, both uncrowded and with miles of golden sand. Barmouth Harbour, at the mouth of the Mawddach Estuary, is where to bag a boat for sea and fishing trips, while Fairbourne is a big pull for windsurfers and other watersport sorts. If sightseeing both seasides, take the Fairbourne Steam Railway from Fairbourne to Penrhyn Point and then the passenger ferry to Barmouth.
