  • Family-owned Snowdonia site near the shore of Bala Lake
  • A short walk to watersports, boat hire and Bala Lake Railway
  • Within walking distance of Bala’s shops, restaurants and golf course
Got Snowdonia National Park in your sights? You can add a little sailing or windsurfing – and relaxation on a family-run site – into the mix when staying at Pen Y Bont Touring and Camping Park. This peaceful place is just a few hundred metres from the shore of Bala Lake (also known by its Welsh name Llyn Tegid). The fresh air of the Snowdonia National Park is sure to aid that well-awaited relaxation… and when you’re feeling fully rejuvenated (and full of tasty food from the shops and restaurants in Bala town centre, 15 minutes’ walk away), there are activities like sailing, windsurfing and boat hire around the lake. Switch up Bala Lake’s gentle ripples for the whitewater of the Tryweryn at the National White Water Centre, 10 minutes’ drive away. Adventurous souls can zoom down the 1080-metre zipwire at Zip World Llechwedd (40 minutes’ drive), climb Snowdonia’s mountains or catch a few swells at the surf lagoon at Adventure Parc Snowdonia (50 minutes). If you’d rather move at a more leisurely pace, putting a few holes as you go, there’s a golf course on the other side of Bala, half an hour’s walk away from the site. Spa days and massage treatments are available about 10 minutes' walk away too.

Liked Layout of campsite and clean facilities

Disliked Not much room to park cars

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review and glad that you enjoyed our clean facilities. If all cars are parked neatly there is room for 1 car for each pitch! Hopefully we will see you again i the future.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked The site was spotlessly clean and the shower facilities were excellent, stocked with shampoo and conditioner and we never had to queue. There is a small, reasonably priced shop and fire pits to borrow for free. The site is a support walk to Bala lake and other hikes.

Disliked Nothing to do with the site itself but unfortunately we had very noisy neighbours who blasted music until 2am, openly smoked drugs and then put the music back on full blast every day at 7am meaning we had to leave a night early as we were too exhausted to enjoy the rest of the trip. There were others unhappy too, maybe there should be ways of reporting anti-social behaviour on site thought we didn’t enquire about this.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review and glad that you enjoyed our facilities. We are really sorry for your noisy neighbors and this should have been brought to the attention of the staff at reception who would have dealt with this situation promptly. There is an emergency number on the reception door at all times for this kind of problem. Hopefully we will see you again and that you will have a much better experience.

8M FHU cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked Lovely site 6 !! plenty of room and the best facilities I’ve seen in a long time.
The staff were very pleasant and great fun!!
Will try and get back some day.

Disliked No free Wi-Fi which at £50 per night is poor!! No tv reception!!

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us a review, very much appreciated and glad that you had a good time. The WIFI is actually free as we are currently upgrading the system so not sure where you paid for this?? We also have good tv reception as the site is in the middle of the main mast and satellite dish, when you visit again please come and ask at reception for the right way to point your Ariel!

Kind regards

FHU cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite (medium)

Liked Site was in a great location for walking to town and to the lake. Site was clean and pitch sizes were brilliant. People need to keep their dogs on leads at all times as near miss with another dog that was off lead. (Not sites fault as they stipulate this on booking).

Disliked Bit on expensive side for pitch than what we normally pay but worth going for views on the lake.

From the manager: Thank you Lindsay 😊 we're so glad you enjoyed your time with us and hope to see you again!

FHU cement/asphalt campervan campsite (medium)

Liked Before arriving I was a little anxious about the proximity of the camp to the lake but it was only a 10min walk with the kajak. The site was lovely with modern shower and toilet facilities. Only had to queue for one of the 3 showers once. No drama

Our medium pitch, 15 was perfect for the van/awning combo and was reasonably level and in a nice secluded part of the camp.

Prefer this site given its proximity to the shops and cafes of Bala. All within a 20min walk.

Disliked The pitch was lovely but shaded from the evening sun. Felt a little overlooked by the RVs opposite but that would not stop me asking for pitch 15 on a return visit.

it made me giggle a little that the washing up sinks are built on slope meaning two are nearly at chest height but the other two are normal height.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review and glad that you enjoyed your pitch and our shower facilities. We are a busy site and sometimes everybody decides to have a shower at the same time which will cause a queue! The sinks are created for all heights, just pick your side!!

Kind Regards

Powered grass tent campsite (large)

Liked The site is beautiful with lovely toilet/shower block which was cleaned regularly. Friendly day check in and shop staff.

Disliked The quiet policy is not enforced, we had music from different guests and loud voices well into the night. An argument broke out at 2am because of one noisy resident. Another night there was an altercation after midnight due to noise. We considered leaving early because of this because we were so sleep deprived.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: So glad that you thought the site is beautiful we really do take pride in it and we are very proud of our shower block and glad that our customers appreciate it. As for the quiet policy, the warden does go around the site between 10.30 and 11.00pm every night and if all is well at that time she usually goes to bed. If for any reason ( as happened during your stay ) anything occurs after these hours there is an emergancy number on the reception door 24/7 to call if there are any disturbances. Hope fully you can appreciate the warden cannot physically work 24 hours and needs some sleep in between.

Onnen 2 bedroom safari tent (pet friendly)

Liked Friendly welcoming staff, amazing fully kitted out isabella tent complete with fluffy towels each, complimentary tea, coffee and sugar. The pillows were amazing and the beds very comfortable. The toilet/shower facilties are 5 star, underfloor heating and private cubicles all spotlessly clean. We had a camp fire every night with toasting marshmallows. Lots of lovely memories made.

Disliked If I have to leave one negative, and its not really an issue, then i would say the WiFi is really poor, however, I do believe it is in the process of being upgraded.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us a review, we really do appreciate it and so happy the you enjoyed you time in our Isabella tent. You are right, we are currently upgrading the system as we speak and hopefully when you come back and visit us you will be happy with the system. Thank you again

Liked The toilet is clean and the staff are very friendly staff.

Disliked Too crowded, and the campsite area is not too big

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. Unfortunately there is very little we can do about the size of the site and yes, we are very busy during the Summer season but we're glad you found the facilities to be clean and the staff friendly.

Local attractions

For those days where you can’t be bothered to walk too far, it’s very handy that the station for the narrow-gauge Bala Lake Railway is just five minutes’ walk away. Views of the water are a given, but count the mountains too: Arenig Fawr, Aran Fawddwy and Aran Benllyn are visible on the route. You may have your sights set on climbing Wales’ tallest mountain, perhaps. If you’re not climbing up Snowdon (an hour's drive) yourself, you might want to take the Snowdon Mountain Railway (an hour and five minutes), which has been making its ascent for over 100 years. A less strenuous trail than the Snowdon climb is the Mawddach Trail, which runs for just under 10 miles from Dolgellau (half an hour), crossing over the gorgeous Barmouth railway bridge on the other end. Coed y Brenin Forest Park (35 minutes) has plenty of trails too, through thick forest this time. You can take them on by mountain bike, standard bicycle or on foot – and there’s bike hire at the forest park.
