  • Family-owned Snowdonia site near the shore of Bala Lake
  • A short walk to watersports, boat hire and Bala Lake Railway
  • Within walking distance of Bala’s shops, restaurants and golf course
Got Snowdonia National Park in your sights? You can add a little sailing or windsurfing – and relaxation on a family-run site – into the mix when staying at Pen Y Bont Touring and Camping Park. This peaceful place is just a few hundred metres from the shore of Bala Lake (also known by its Welsh name Llyn Tegid). The fresh air of the Snowdonia National Park is sure to aid that well-awaited relaxation… and when you’re feeling fully rejuvenated (and full of tasty food from the shops and restaurants in Bala town centre, 15 minutes’ walk away), there are activities like sailing, windsurfing and boat hire around the lake. Switch up Bala Lake’s gentle ripples for the whitewater of the Tryweryn at the National White Water Centre, 10 minutes’ drive away. Adventurous souls can zoom down the 1080-metre zipwire at Zip World Llechwedd (40 minutes’ drive), climb Snowdonia’s mountains or catch a few swells at the surf lagoon at Adventure Parc Snowdonia (50 minutes). If you’d rather move at a more leisurely pace, putting a few holes as you go, there’s a golf course on the other side of Bala, half an hour’s walk away from the site. Spa days and massage treatments are available about 10 minutes' walk away too.

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch (XL)

Liked Lovely large pitch with water and drainage included at the pitch. Picnic table also at the pitch which was a bonus. Toilet and shower facilities were really good, and the site was spotlessly clean. Only a 10 min walk into town and very dog friendly which was great.

Liked This is a lovely campsite, we had a great weekend. It is very well kept and the facilities are the best I've seen for a long time. A very short walk to the lake and a nice walk down the river will see you in town in 15/20 mins. It is also right next to the Bala steam train railway. Great site 😊

Onnen 2 bedroom safari tent (pet friendly)

Liked Liked the accommodation we stayed in having a fridge/freezer with cooker and hob makes it all that easier with kids the campsite was one off the cleanest I've been to and the toilets and showers were amazing.

Disliked No area for kids to play

From the manager: Thank you Aaron, it was a pleasure to have you stay with us and we very much hope to see you again!

We try and facilitate everything our guests might need but unfortunately we just don't have the space for a play area - but there are 2 in town within walking distance and a great soft play centre too.

Excellent site , great facilities , short walk into Bala .

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch (medium)

Liked Pen Y Bont Caravan Park is an absolute gem tucked away near the beautiful shores of Llyn Tegid (Bala Lake). From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed and relaxed. The staff are incredibly friendly and clearly take great pride in maintaining a peaceful, clean, and scenic site.

The location is perfect — just a short walk to the lake and the town of Bala, but still quiet enough to feel like a true getaway. Whether you’re into walking, paddleboarding, or just soaking in the stunning views of Snowdonia, it’s all right on your doorstep.

Facilities are spotless, well-kept, and thoughtfully laid out. The pitches are level and spacious, with plenty of room for caravans, motorhomes, and tents. There’s a lovely mix of open spaces and shaded areas, and even on busy weekends, it never feels overcrowded.

What really stood out for us was the calm, friendly atmosphere. It’s ideal for couples, families, and anyone looking to relax in nature without sacrificing comfort.

We’ll definitely be coming back — Pen Y Bont is a place you instantly fall in love with.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Really lovely toilet and shower block which was kept very clean. Well maintained grounds. Warm welcome at reception. Walking distance to Bala.

Disliked Pitches were a bit close to each other. CouIdnt buy kindling, only logs. Would stay here again though as the positives outweigh this.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review, very much appreciated. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay and appreciated the grounds and amenity block. We don't sell kindling here, we give it away free with your bag of logs, if you wanted some.
We look forward to seeing you here again in the future.

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch (small, maximum 6 metres)

Liked Great site, spotlessly clean and very well maintained
Very friendly staff.
Great pitch with electric, tap and waste water grid.
Pitch level and flat

Disliked Gates to entrance of site left open all night(no electric barrier)
Road past the site can be quite noisy during the day and traffic passes by quite quickly coming down the hill.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review - we're so glad you enjoyed your time with us and hope to welcome you back again soon.
Unfortunately there is nothing we can do about the road noise and traffic - there is a 40mph speed limit along the stretch of road outside of the site.
The gates/barrier is something we plan to address this Winter too.

6M fully-serviced hardstanding campervan pitch

Liked The location is great just a couple of minutes walk to the lake and only 15 minutes into town. The facilities at the site are great too with really high quality shower facilities and th on site shop. All the pitches are hard standing and fully serviced. The site is also compact and easy to get around.

Disliked The shop could do with being open a little later than 5pm. Apart from that nothing else!

Local attractions

For those days where you can’t be bothered to walk too far, it’s very handy that the station for the narrow-gauge Bala Lake Railway is just five minutes’ walk away. Views of the water are a given, but count the mountains too: Arenig Fawr, Aran Fawddwy and Aran Benllyn are visible on the route. You may have your sights set on climbing Wales’ tallest mountain, perhaps. If you’re not climbing up Snowdon (an hour's drive) yourself, you might want to take the Snowdon Mountain Railway (an hour and five minutes), which has been making its ascent for over 100 years. A less strenuous trail than the Snowdon climb is the Mawddach Trail, which runs for just under 10 miles from Dolgellau (half an hour), crossing over the gorgeous Barmouth railway bridge on the other end. Coed y Brenin Forest Park (35 minutes) has plenty of trails too, through thick forest this time. You can take them on by mountain bike, standard bicycle or on foot – and there’s bike hire at the forest park.
