  • Family-owned Snowdonia site near the shore of Bala Lake
  • A short walk to watersports, boat hire and Bala Lake Railway
  • Within walking distance of Bala’s shops, restaurants and golf course
Got Snowdonia National Park in your sights? You can add a little sailing or windsurfing – and relaxation on a family-run site – into the mix when staying at Pen Y Bont Touring and Camping Park. This peaceful place is just a few hundred metres from the shore of Bala Lake (also known by its Welsh name Llyn Tegid). The fresh air of the Snowdonia National Park is sure to aid that well-awaited relaxation… and when you’re feeling fully rejuvenated (and full of tasty food from the shops and restaurants in Bala town centre, 15 minutes’ walk away), there are activities like sailing, windsurfing and boat hire around the lake. Switch up Bala Lake’s gentle ripples for the whitewater of the Tryweryn at the National White Water Centre, 10 minutes’ drive away. Adventurous souls can zoom down the 1080-metre zipwire at Zip World Llechwedd (40 minutes’ drive), climb Snowdonia’s mountains or catch a few swells at the surf lagoon at Adventure Parc Snowdonia (50 minutes). If you’d rather move at a more leisurely pace, putting a few holes as you go, there’s a golf course on the other side of Bala, half an hour’s walk away from the site. Spa days and massage treatments are available about 10 minutes' walk away too.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. Unfortunately there is very little we can do about the size of the site and yes, we are very busy during the Summer season but we're glad you found the facilities to be clean and the staff friendly.

Powered grass tent campsite (medium)

Liked Brilliant small site with fantastic facilities. The pitches are really pretty with planting and mature trees and the layout of the site meant that the views were great. Pitches were well spaced with good close parking next to your tent. Really easy to walk into Bala which also had great views of the lake. Very impressed.

Powered grass tent campsite (large)

Liked Excellent facilities and location. Staff extremely helpful and friendly. Lovely views and the washrooms cleaner and posher than a lot of hotels I have stayed in.

Disliked Wasps (although that wasn't their fault)
WiFi was in the process of being upgraded but not a massive issue with good phone signal.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you Matthew, we're so glad you enjoyed your stay with us and hope to see you again soon!

Sorry about the wasps - they do seem to be especially prevalent this year - we do have lots of citronella products for sale in the shop to try and keep them at bay!

Liked Beautiful campsite. Loved the glamping. Clean facilities. Friendly staff and accommodating. Close to the shops and the water!

Disliked The wifi didn’t work. But the place is actually so beautiful later you just forget about your devices.

We are still working on ensuring the Wi-Fi is available across the whole of the park - it's proving to be a long process!

Liked Walking distance to baka lake, and village, very well kept site. Onsite shop has a bbq order service. Same day delivery.
Very clean site, well maintained.
Toilets/shower facilities very good.
Complementary shampoo/conditioner in both sex toilets, very clean, good heat and pressure from showers.

Disliked Onsite shop didnt open until 9am and shuts at 5pm, limited opening hours. Quite limited
in stock and expensive.
Few staff/security on site after shop/reception shut at 5pm.
Pitch we got wasn't level, was lucky we bought a long electric hook up wire as was a stretch from the hook up power point to our pitch.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review - we're so pleased that you felt the site was well kept, clean and well maintained. We are very proud of the site and as a very small team, we take huge pride in the 5 star rating we have achieved.

We are disappointed with your comments regarding the shop. Again as a small team, we are limited in the hours that we can open (there are only 3 of us running the entire site) but I think 9am-5pm is perfectly adequate to stock up on any essentials you may need - for anything else there are 2 reasonably sized convenience stores in Bala (only a 10-15min walk from the site) which open 7am-11pm. I think it's very unfair to describe us as expensive too, but that is a matter of opinion.
The warden lives on site and has her phone number on the front door at all times should an emergency arise. She also patrols the park around 10:30-11pm to ensure everything is in check before she goes to sleep.
Sorry to hear you weren't happy with your pitch, it is our largest tent pitch, and yes is on a slight incline but usually people can find a spot they are happy with. Like you said, good job you brought the long cable but had there been a problem, we would have quite happily lent you a longer cable if yours hadn't reached.

We had a great stay, would stay again!

FHU cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite (XL)

Liked Lovely large pitch with water and drainage included at the pitch. Picnic table also at the pitch which was a bonus. Toilet and shower facilities were really good, and the site was spotlessly clean. Only a 10 min walk into town and very dog friendly which was great.

Disliked Nothing

Liked This is a lovely campsite, we had a great weekend. It is very well kept and the facilities are the best I've seen for a long time. A very short walk to the lake and a nice walk down the river will see you in town in 15/20 mins. It is also right next to the Bala steam train railway. Great site 😊

Local attractions

For those days where you can’t be bothered to walk too far, it’s very handy that the station for the narrow-gauge Bala Lake Railway is just five minutes’ walk away. Views of the water are a given, but count the mountains too: Arenig Fawr, Aran Fawddwy and Aran Benllyn are visible on the route. You may have your sights set on climbing Wales’ tallest mountain, perhaps. If you’re not climbing up Snowdon (an hour's drive) yourself, you might want to take the Snowdon Mountain Railway (an hour and five minutes), which has been making its ascent for over 100 years. A less strenuous trail than the Snowdon climb is the Mawddach Trail, which runs for just under 10 miles from Dolgellau (half an hour), crossing over the gorgeous Barmouth railway bridge on the other end. Coed y Brenin Forest Park (35 minutes) has plenty of trails too, through thick forest this time. You can take them on by mountain bike, standard bicycle or on foot – and there’s bike hire at the forest park.
