  • Quiet dog-friendly site by the Four Waterfalls in the Brecon Beacons
  • A 20-minute drive to the base of Pen Y Fan; another waterfall nearby
  • Wood available to buy for firepits; shops and pubs a short drive away
Whether you’re hunting down the Four Waterfalls or taking the scenic drive to the base of Pen Y Fan, your break in the Brecon Beacons National Park will be off to a splendid start with a stay at Bryn Bwch. This quiet, dog-friendly site is a great base from which to go waterfall spotting, as it’s next to the Four Waterfalls and the Sgwd Yr Eira Waterfall is within walking distance too… and as you might expect from a site in the national park, there are stunning views from this place. Dogs and children are very welcome to use the site as their base, so simply set down with all the gang in the large, well-maintained field (which has some level sections and some with slight gradients or inclines) and park next to your tent. On the facilities front, there are four toilets and two showers to go around. For anyone who wants to light up their own firepit in the evening, wood can be purchased from the bungalow when you check in. Ready to take on South Wales’ biggest mountain? The car park for routes up Pen Y Fan is 20 minutes’ drive away. It’s a fair way up to the top, so to pick up any snacks for the climb, you might want to stop by in Glynneath first. A 10-minute drive away from the site, this town has shops for picking up supplies along with pubs to reward your climbing efforts. When you're looking for a pub slightly closer by, there's also one five minutes' drive away from the site.

What customers say

Great location near the Four Waterfalls trail with amazing views. Friendly owners, flexible check-in/out, and good value. Basic but clean facilities, campfires allowed for a relaxed vibe. Some noted noise and sloped pitches.

Primitive grass campervan campsite

Liked The views are amazing, very laidback relaxing campsite some people having fires and chatting away
Good ground for pitching up
Surrounded by sheep fields
Loved it. Will definitely camp here again when I come back to Brecon Beacons

Disliked The toilets are quite far but that’s my fault as I pitched the furthest side of the field. If you want to be closer to toilets pitch on right hand side when you go in

Primitive grass campervan campsite

Liked Laid back vibe, friendly host, good shower, toilet and washing up facilities, great views and quiet location close to hiking trails and directly linked by bridleway to the 4 waterfalls trail. Campfires are allowed, too, a huge bonus.

Disliked Most of the field is sloping, not much to do about that and it's the price you pay for great views across the valley. Although the whole site slopes, it is very easy to find a flat pitch. Toilet lighting could be a lot better - one of the ladies toilet cubicles appeared to have no light at all, same with the gents.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked It’s a really cool spacious camp site, which you can see a lot more stars from than you can in London. They also allow campfires which I thought was quite nice. I just pulled up and no one actually came to speak to me, which I think was because I gave them my reg, so check in was nice and easy. And I did actually get a solid 5g data connection for the majority of the time.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Very good location and HOT showers most importantly.

Disliked Good facility, just not enough for a fully booked campsite. During our visit there was a lot of teenagers (DOE I assume) hanging around toilet block and washing up facilities, making it hard to get into and use.

Liked Lovely campsite with nice hot showers. Perfect for the Four waterfalls walk, which to walked to from the site. Pitch where you fancy and then the owners come and see you later on in the evening.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Great pitch, stunning views, peaceful & the owners are lovely!

Disliked Nothing disliked tbh, only thing I’d say is there is no set pitches so a bit of a free for all, we had a family that decided to pitch 4 large tents around us, so no privacy and they were rather close to our tent.

Local attractions

Break into the Brecon Beacons however you please… taste the whisky from the copper-pot stills on a tour of Penderyn Distillery Visitor Centre (15 minutes' drive) perhaps? Grab a co-adventurer and strap yourselves in for a one or two-person zipwire ride from the tower of a former Colliery coal mining site at Zip World Tower (20 minutes)? Or board the Brecon Mountain Railway (40 minutes) and make your way into the mountains on the original mountain line? Mountain biking might make it onto your itinerary in these parts, as there are a couple of options within driving distance of the site. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a newbie or a pro at BikePark Wales (35 minutes), as there are lots of different forest trails. Dare Valley Country Park and Gravity Family Bike Park (35 minutes) is another good option for families, especially those who are new to the game. At this site, you’ll only be a short drive from the National Showcaves Centre for Wales (25 minutes). Here, kids are likely to love the lifesized dinosaurs and the caverns. Plus, there are lots of things to learn about the history of the dinosaurs and other cool parts of the past in the museum and Iron Age farm.
